6 speed Probe GT Trans... OEM?

Post by MrMazda92 »

Hey guys, I haven't seen any mention of this and I couldn't find it by searching. Maybe I'm an idiot when it comes to actually wording those properly... but here goes.

This is the link to a guy in my city selling one, he claims low mileage(surprising, nobody ever lies about this... :roll: )

http://eugene.craigslist.org/pts/1769630217.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Is it possibly a bolt-on for a DE? Would it fit in an MX3? Am I crazy for even considering it? Thx. Also, is it RWD? =(

Are you kidding me? Probes are FWD. And it's gonna be 5 speed unless by 6 speed he means 5+reverse? lol
Could be a typo also.

I asked the RWD bit on the off chance it was aftermarket, and maybe the guy made a conversion. Not common, but not unheard of.

Idk, I read somewhere about the MR2 6 speed being a simple swap onto a KL, might have been here... might have been mx6.com though, I lurk there whereas I annoy here! :twisted:

Nope there was definitely never a 6 speed tranny for a probe. Either a mistake or a misinformed seller.

There was the project of fitting the Pontiac F40 6-speed transaxle to the KL but I'm pretty sure that dead-ended:

Looks a bit complicated for my liking. I don't mind putting in work, but not if it's more risk than potential benefit.

My thought is that the MX-6 tranny should be sufficient with the better 5th gear. I don't think our cars are putting out enough power to need a 6th gear, not for the cost it would be to create it anyway.

I love the Miata 6 speed.

Push DOWN and then diagonally for reverse.

That Pontiac 6 Speed would be the absolute BOMB!!! but...it would cost a RAT LOAD of money to buy one and the conversion was not straight forward.

I was following his work when he was researching it, but I always thought he was making it harder than it had to be. Bottom line though, no one would ever pony up the money for one of those even if he was able to produce a plug and play kit.

A 6th gear would be nice as it would bring down the highway revs to about 2k hopefully =/
