Interchanging doors between different models
Interchanging doors between different models
Hello,
I am looking to replace the doors on my 1994 1.8 MX-3 (5 spd). I have found some doors for sale but they are all from different models (both year and engine type). I am guessing that all doors are interchangeable but I am not 100% sure. So, I am wondering if I can safely get any two doors from another MX-3 (or possibly from two different cars) or not.
Thank you for your help.

Re: Interchanging doors between different models
all doors are 100% the same. Just may have to swap the panels/power/manual windows, but the steel is the same.
Edit, pox is right, you can upgrade to power windows, too. We have the harness for every option in the car, you'll find the loose end somewhere.

Re: Interchanging doors between different models
I just swapped some 92 GS power doors onto my 94 RS that had crank doors. Fit like a charm, and all the power goodies work.
Took the bp+t out of the mx and swapped it into a 95 escort wagon.

Re: Interchanging doors between different models
Be advised if you swap 94+ doors onto a 92-93, your automatic seatbelts will stop working.

Re: Interchanging doors between different models
Not entirely true. There's no harness for cruise control on an RS. I've been through this. RS and GS harnesses are different, and GS options that are not available on the RS are not plug and play with an RS harness.Ryan wrote:We have the harness for every option in the car, you'll find the loose end somewhere.

I've found cruise control harnesses in a 323 that came without cruise..

Re: Interchanging doors between different models
when I did my power window swap I had to wire it in myself. Even with the door wiring harnesses, they wouldn't work. No power was going to the switch.

Re: Interchanging doors between different models
Odd. I just did that too. And they worked right away. Did you make sure you had the passenger window switch plugged in at the same time as the master switch? One switch gets its ground through the other, and they only work when plugged in together.Dark_Rider2k3 wrote:when I did my power window swap I had to wire it in myself. Re: Interchanging doors between different models
I tested only the driver door yesterday, simply plugged in the harness without bolting the door in, and the window switch/motor worked and the window went up/down. I have not tried to passenger side yet.
My next concern is swapping my gs hatch onto my rs so I can have a functional wiper/washer on the hatch!

Yep both were plugged in, and I also connected a fuse to the power window spot.umcamara wrote:Odd. I just did that too. And they worked right away.
