Trouble Starting.. Please help!
Trouble Starting.. Please help!
Hello all. I have a 1995 4 cyl 5 speed mx3 with 70k miles on it. I started her up this morning and all was good. I went to a dirt bike shop to buy new kickstands and when i came out it wouldnt start. The battery was fine. The only thing that happened was one loud "click" type noise when i turned the key. When you turned the key and you put your hand on the valve cover, you could feel something hit under there. I stood around and looked under the hood for about 5 minues not touching anything just thinking of how this day could be better. I tried one more time and it started no problem. I decided to take my chances and go to the supermarket. I came back out about an hour later and it started fine. I came home and parked it in the driveway. Went back out about 3 hours later and no start again, just the one click. These clicks do not sound like the starter clicks though. Oil level is fine along with all fluids. Please help me with this. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks so much!

check voltage at the battery with a multimeter. Check starter next, check for spark afterwards.

I suggest replacing the starter. I had this happen to a friends PGT, and it was the starter itself.
Just get a junkyard unit, they're fairly reliable, its not common for them to die.
Edit, sorry, do check the battery terminals first. I had this problem too... my brain is a little fried.

clean/tighten the leads on your battery. if mine are loose i get that loud click and i loose power. go outside wiggle the terminals and it starts right up.
