Both obd1 and obd2??

Post by Mariob316 »

Ok so im thinking of getting a obd2 connector and software but im confused on if i have obd1 or 2.

car info
-1994 gs
-When i look under the passenger side i see the obd2 connector and my ecu code is k853-b

BUT when i open my hood i see the diagnosis box and when i did the test from 10-ground i get no code, the cel stays on.

Some of the cars from 94 and 95 are this mix hybrid of both, you'll really have
to see for yourself. 1994 should be OBD1 but if you have an OBD2 connector
its probably 2 :(

I dont recall if it stays on constantly or flashes non stop for when there
are no codes. For Toyotas it flashes on off constantly, been awhile since
I pulled a no code message

HAHA!!! PROOF!!! I had a 95' that was OBD2 and nobody believed me.

p.s. your car is probably a 95'. If the tenth character in the VIN is an R it's a 94', if it's an S its a 95'. Production of 95' models would have began in 07 or 08/94' so your door sticker may say a date in the 94' calendar year even though it's a 95' model.
94' RS/GS/MS/CF Monster Turbo...coming soon.
93' GS SE, the Black Beast, the former love of my life...soon to be gutted and crushed.
94' GS, black on black, now in several small pieces...and one large crushed piece.

Check the passenger side of the center console the obd2 connector is there if its obd2. I had to show a mazda tech where it was because he did not believe me that the car was obd2 back when I first got it.

Ok well the tenth digit of my vin is "R" xD I will check soon with a obd2 scanner and see if the port works.

Question, even if i don't have any error codes will the scanner still someway tell me its connected?

Yep, it'll connect to it and say all is good

OBDII did trickle out in 94's. I've seen one or two myself. 95's there was quite a bit that were OBDII, i'd say 50%-ish chance in 95. 96 it was government mandated, so should never find an OBDI '96
