too cold...no start

Post by shinsonater »

in the morning when below freezing and since it's jan. most are, my car will crank but will not start about the third time i encountered this problem i realize the lights(oil, engine etc..) in the dash will not come on. But in the recent days(i live in va) it has been slightly warmer and all the lights come on and car starts no problem.

has anyone had a similar situation and or maybe could give me some insight.

in your engine bay theres a little box behind the battery labeled "Diagnotics" (or something like that)
Jump TEN & GND and turn your car to the on position and you should get codes blinking on your CEL light.
Give this thread a look over as it goes over the basic steps with no starts http://www.mx-3.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.ph ... gine+codes" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (i found this link with the Search link on the main bar on top, its useful)

Pretty sure it's your battery. How old is it anyways? It's time to get a new one.

my batt. is only about 1.5 years old. the car has no problem cranking infact it cranks like a champ! it just won't turn over. sometimes when i have this problem and i move the steering wheel around the lights flash for a sec and if i find the right postion they stay on and i can start the car unless i lose that perfect postion....

check it out anyways, check alternator too. Maybe you have short somewhere and it's drawing voltage, draining battery overnight. Probably could use a tune up also.

+1 on the batt/terminal or ground issue. Pending on where you live, I'm pretty sure you have no idea what cold even is.
