EGR Removal
EGR Removal
I did some research and can't really seem to get a definitive answer. I really thought that there was a FAQ or a write-up on "EGR Delete," but I could not find one.
I recently installed an egr block-off plate on my DE. My understanding is that as long as you keep the egr valve and solenoids hooked up to their respective harnesses, I shouldn't throw a code.
However, my thought now is that the vacuum lines still need to be connected in order to not throw a code since the solenoids and egr valve will be electrically connected but not mechanically, causing improper readings to be sent to the ecu.
My question is: can I just bypass the egr and plug all vacuum lines to the egr and solenoids in order to keep the vacuum system in a closed loop? Or will this throw a code/ ?
I dont think I should have any issues with emissions inseption since the valve itself will be installed, the egr pipe just isn't there.
Any input is appreciated. Thanks

Re: EGR Removal
Yeah... I don't think there's any way to get rid of it without having a CEL, unless you have the probinator.
Re: EGR Removal
Yeah chip for victory my friend! If anyone knows where to get those block off plates, please let me know, I need one for when I install headers and delete my EGR.

Re: EGR Removal
I'm concerned about the code bc I dont want it to run in limp mode and idk if this would cause that to happen. I haven't been successful in finding an egr pipe to hook up, plus, the headers I bought from Mark have the egr pipe welded shut. It looks as though it's only welded at the pipe and not the fitting.
So basically:
- no egr = will not pass emissions testing
- egr block off plate = no proper readings to the ecu
- improper readings = poor performance
I think I should have looked more before I lept
Anyways, I think I'll look into the probinator. I wont ask any questions about that here as I know theres tons of info on this site about it. I'll search and ask about anything I can't find. Thanks.

Re: EGR Removal
Nah I am pretty sure EGR codes don't cause any performance drops. Above 5,500rpms, real heavy load or under deceleration it's meant to switch off anyways and not actually do it's job.

Re: EGR Removal
I can deal with that... I would just have to hide the CEL when I get her inspected. She's OBD1 so I don't have to worry about anyone plugging into my diagnostic box.

Re: EGR Removal
No power issues with the codes. I've had those two CEL codes for nearly 10 years and no issues. Check your inspection ruls regarding the CEL. In GA OBDI are not suject to CEL since OBDI love to have false readings anyway. I pass with flying colors on a sniffer test and they ignore the CEL.

Re: EGR Removal
I could always just pull the bulb one day annually for inspection, just so they wont get a reason to suspect anything. I'm gonna just leave it all disconnected and plug up the vac lines that are T'd into the VRIS vac system. Thanks for your help guys.
