do i need a FPR??
do i need a FPR??
well my mods are ebay headers, kustom straight intake,2.5 exhaust(open without muffler)255 walbro fuel pump MX6 KLZE straight neck.
went to the dyno and only got 162whp 153trq but got 10.3 AFR on the wide band. they told that it is super rich.with a fuel pressure regulator will it get me good numbers?getting the car leaner should help right?

Re: do i need a FPR??
I'd say so mate. 255 fuel pump is quite a lot. With an adjustable FPR you will be able to tone down the fuel. At the moment it's probably getting like 50-60psi and it needs like 35-45 or something like that. Basically making it rich might root up your injectors and or cat converter. Running it leaner will use less petrol and make more power.
Btw 162whp is GOOD! You'll probably get over 170 when you get an FPR. I'm jealous lol

Considering it's a 200hp engine I wouldn't say that's good...RX8SE3P wrote:Btw 162whp is GOOD! You'll probably get over 170 when you get an FPR. I'm jealous lol

The ZE can put out 200 bhp, his car is running 162 whp. That is pretty good._-Night-Shade-_ wrote:Considering it's a 200hp engine I wouldn't say that's good...RX8SE3P wrote:Btw 162whp is GOOD! You'll probably get over 170 when you get an FPR. I'm jealous lol

I realize that. 19% loss through drivetrain is a bit too much, especially considering the fact that he's not stock.umcamara wrote:The ZE can put out 200 bhp, his car is running 162 whp. Re: do i need a FPR??
yup thats what mine was running, however I have a curved neck ze. Im sure by leaning it out you can squeeze more hp.

MX-3 w/ curved neck millenia klde, boosted @ 5 psi. /bov and wastegate are good!/ nitto drag radial/ gutted interior/ millenia red top injectors, vortech fmu/aem wideband/ all bolts ons/ Car put together 100% by me. Mechanic? who needs a mechanic? ew.. real men work on their own cars!

Re: do i need a FPR??
What ECU are you running?
I tried leaning mine out with an AFPR, it didn't work, certainly not the proper way of doing it IMO. My ecu just adjusted for the lower pressure and still attained 10:1. Try taking the vacuum hose off the FPR, which will keep it fixed pressure - leaned mine out a bit.
Megasquirt is the way to go, all I read are stupid AFRs with kl31,36, k8 chipped etc. I think your dyno results are decent compared to other real world results, but I bet there's easily 10whp more attainable with a good MS tune.

You're wrong, it's a used engine from what I can tell, not a rebuilt one. It will have lost some power at the very least just from that fact. Considering he is getting almost 120kw atw from an engine that's probably making 140kw at the crank, that's quite good. Especially since he's running richer than most high boosted turbo cars are

Anyways - I've read that the stock fuel pressure regulator can struggle to hold the pressure coming from the high pressure 255lph pumps. I'd definitely say to get one, it's merely going to restrict the pump from forcing so much fuel down the engines throat. Then he will make some more power and it will be quite impressive imo.
I've seen many people make 140whp off ZE's with lots of mods. He's got himself either a healthy engine or a really friendly dyno

with the same setup i have now i had 179whp on my 323 hatch.but i had a 1.8 dohc kia fuel pump and a fuel regulator.but i found one of my problems i have 3 kl31 cams and 1 kl01 cam.makes me wanna kill the the guy thats sold it to me.so im gonna buy the kl31 cam i need and a FPR and go back to the dyno.
