We (Advance Auto Parts) have received a bunch of new parts from Spectre. For the first time since I started working here, I'm really excited by these new parts.
Not only are they of excellent quality (believe me, I checked them all), but also cheap, and the Spectre guys have come up with a modular system, which will allow anybody to route their intake exactly how they want.
Yeah. They've been around at the speed shops I go to, and I would have gone that route a year ago if I wasn't so cheap. Don't get me wrong; that's the cheapest way to do it "right".
EWWW this is cheap crap that's found at autozone and pepboys. I made the mistake of getting this crap when I built my buddy a CAI for his Ion Redline, I DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE USING THESE PRODUCTS. Plastic melted/warped from the heat of the engine after a few hours.
Its like 15-20 dollars now for a universal CAI on ebay that will work and is metal not crappy plastic. Get you a nice K&N Filter that will run you 75 bucks that's reusable and that you can clean. I don't consider spending 100 bucks on a CAI expensive at all.

I'm not going to get into it, but I will say that K&N is a well trusted brand that uses thermoplastics, and silicone. Their products are the #1 choice for pretty much every type of racing.
I haven't ever used the Spectre stuff. If it melts, take it back with your receipt
I have looked at the spectre stuff too (been around for years) and I have used their couplers (silicone) and the air filters but I would definately go the ebay route for real metal piping. Sure you have to cut it but in the end it IS cheaper and you've created a masterpiece
Maybe thats a hint the CAI should be further away from the heat.
regardless, its worth noting that our crammed V6 engine bays are much hotter than your regular 4 banger....

I will say only one thing: I'm ready to bet money that the whole purpose of building a COLD air intake would somehow be related to keeping your intake COLD, don't you think?
So, the way I see it, putting your air filter in a place hot enough to melt it would be kinda STUPID...
