instrument cluster interchangability '92 <> '94 V6?

Post by jmdearras »

My 1994 MX-3 project car has a crappy instrument cluster, the result of a poor attempt to install the electro-luminense (sp) replacement dials.

I have a 1992 cluster in greaat shape. Is it interchangable as is, or can I swap instruments/dials as needed to the '94 housing?

Or is this untread ground?

Thanks,
Jim

My car has a '92 GS cluster with a '94 RS dash harness and it's all good except wires might be in different places on the connectors. It was swapped when I bought the car, but I had to relocate the ACC wire for the clock, there might be more wires to change though.

and you may need to swap over the speedometer sensor. cable vs digital in 92 vs 94 for RS. although all gs were digital.

If you have a V6, then yea they will swap right over, clusters have the same plugs. Only difference is that the 94 cluster does not have the stupid DAY option on it that. The 92-93 have the DAY option in the clock

Thanks. I might try to move the speedometer, the '92 shows almost 100k more miles!

BTW, what is the DAY option?

Thanks,
Jim

If you press the clock option ir will switch to a day/month format for a few seconds. This was stupid as some months have 30 or 29 days and the clock always went to 31. Lame

Read my post, I had to same problem. I just traced the ACC post on the back to the connector and found the wire was in the wrong place.
