Driving without air filter for 2000 miles?

Post by hgallegos915 »

Ok.. so I have yet to been able to fit an air filter into my turbo, I had one.. and the dammed thing fell off... I used those accordion hoses that diesel trucks use in their turbo system...

What have I damaged? o.0

car runs fine , still rich as hell but drives normal...

what will happen to my engine?

anyone got pics of their turbo filter set ups?

also the turbo would spool much slower with the filter on..

El Paso is dusty.. Here's an illustration to show a point;
While in Iraq, a mechanic forgot to put air filters on a bunch of Humvees. When they started to run badly, and stop running, and they say the missing filters, they took apart the engines, and found the cylinders coated with glass. They had to be completely rebuilt. The heat turned the dust silicate into glass. It's not good. Change your oil right away, check your compression, and find a filter that will work!

Or go to a muffler shop and have them bend up some piping that will route where you want it, get some silicon connectors and clamp it all up nice and tight. After, of course, you do what Jesse suggested.

What type of filter are you running and how big is the piping going to it?

running it without filter didn't help at all. Who knows what kind of internal damage has been done to the turbo.

I think its the piping, the turbo looks clean, luckily we have not had any bad weather.

I was using a 1.75 pipe connected to the 2.5 and an adapter. I think its causing the air not come trough right?

its a mushroom style small cone filter.

you can just use some screen if the filter is causing problems, it would keep all the particles of dirt out but it will keep the big stuff out....

I think its the bov....

I put my greddy bov and it doesnt surge. I dont know why without the filter.. the hks type(ebay) oopens just fine. as soon as I slap the filter.. it doesnt fully open.... I dont know how many cfm the filter flows.
