The weight reduction would be offset by the shitty aerodynamics

I would't say thats so much the issue in autoX. The issue would be moreso the driver all hopped up on exhaust fumes.

Sorry for the old thread revival, but I can't help but chime in. All I'm going to say is that if I had a spare hatch with no glass I'd be working on building a solid decklid style hatch with a small, vertical window. Something like a Del Sol, but fixed in place for fab's sake. That just looks sweet with the hatch off.

Excellent score, though!

actually I'm quite worried that the weight reduction will be TOO much and I'll have to add weight back to the rear (maybe fuel cell and battery relocation  )... the weight bias is much more in the front already (I don't remember the actual ratio)... anyways we will see how they do when we get the lexan fitted!

I've been worried about that for you since the whole CF hatch thing started.

I think moving the fuel cell to the far rear of the car would work really well. A 40L fuel cell weighs 66lbs. Your battery probably weighs 30lbs or so. That's probably about what you shed by changing the hatch to CF.

Oh, you got progress on the Lexan!?!?

Actually, I've been thinking of it for exactly that reason, and I think it would be great for autocross to get the rear to slide around. It's why I want to actually get an adjustable CF wing, adjust it for racing where at low speeds, the rear will kick out, but at higher speeds, the downforce will stablize the rear. I actually picked up a second hatch garnish last year cause I want to prototype an adjustable one using electric actuators so I can do it on the fly. For those that don't say there's a use for rear wings on FWD cars, I've always argued for it, and I'm sure now you'll see why....

I don't want the rear to slide - unless I start drifting... now there's a novel concept - being able to drift in an mx-3 because the rear is so lightweight haha :confused2:

meh in the end if it's too light I'll put it on the other car for looks
