I've been watching that auction for a while. The thing is it's only in OK shape, the shipping will be $400 and I am the OCD posterchild.

For a little more i can have a new bumper and new lip. I will settle for a set of used fog lights or I will find something else that will fit. The OEM fog light switch is only $38.

I'm at peace with it.

So I've been on a minor rampage buying parts for the Purple Beast.

I bought all the Lateral Links, Trailing Arms, Hubs, Brake lines, and E-Brake cables from Mazda Powered's 323 part out. He was advertising his MX-3 complete GS disk brake conversion as you may recall. Maybe it's my own fault but I took it from his add that the entire rear end part out was MX-3 parts. Well it turns out that the lateral links are not...they are aftermarket 323/Protege links. It's not a big deal I guess...though I was pretty annoyed when they arrived. I will be able to sell them on ClubProtege. If I get $150USD for them as I think I will, that will make the cost of the hubs, brake lines, E-Brake cables and hardware I got from him about $150. Not bad for basically new stuff. OF course then I still need Lateral links...meh...it's just money. Unless someone has a really nice set sitting in their garage or something I'll prolly buy new ones. I'm waiting for quotes on powder coating my spare rear subframe, Trailing Links, both sway bars, rear tie bar, front LCA's and front transmission mount and crossmember. Once that's done I will be putting it all back together with new Wytbushings and my spiffy end links. I'll prolly get some new ball joints and outer tie rod ends too just because.

I bought a new stock clutch today as I figure best case scenario I won't be doing any big engine upgrades for a while and my clutch is toast. I will be ordering my tranny rebuild kit on Monday. I'm going to attempt the rebuild myself in the next few weeks. I have all the literature and have been over it thoroughly. I have done motorcycle transmissions in the past, so I don't think it will be too difficult. I will take lots of pictures and let you all know how it goes.

That's all...just felt like typing a bit.

I noticed you moved your coolant resevoir under the HEI module... I tried to use the overflow bottle down there and it didn't work since it was lower than the radiator = therefore the pressure caused it to fill up the bottle and overflow, leaving my radiator half empty to the highest point of the bottle (if that makes sense)... how did you solve this problem?

Actually it hasn't been a problem. I never considered that it might.

Now that I think about it I don't actually think it should matter if its lower than the rad. When the rad gets hot and pressure opens the rad cap it's going to push the expanding coolant out under pressure whether it's higher or lower than the reservoir. By the same token, when the rad cools and the coolant contracts it creates negative pressure in the rad and will suck coolant out of the res (because there should always be enough coolant in the res to submerge the hose) until the cap closes.

On my bike the coolant reservoir is at the lowest point in the system under the engine. It works on the exact same principle.

Oh...it was alot. Thankfully, I will not have to pay shipping as my dad is a long haul trucker and will be able to swing by and pick it up on his way home.

I was very interested in that Ebay auction but in the end, with shipping and duty it would have been about $750 anyway. This way I get a brand new one that has never been folded in half for about the same. The fogs and the factory switch will be about another $150....pffft...peanuts.

I have this new parts fetish. I can't control it.

the same guy that has the bumper on EBAY has a set of white fogs for $80 or so...+ about $50 for shipping. I have been waiting for confirmation on everything else before I go ahead and buy them. Corksport sold me the switch for $38.

If you can hook me up with a better deal I'll be you new best friend. I'll tell 10 people you're cool. I'll buy you a coffee if you're ever in Edmonton.

Last week I ordered and picked up a new synchro and bearing kit from a local transmission shop. The problem with the G25M-R tranny is the sheer number of applications that it has. The basic construction of the tranny is similar in all of them but there are details that differ. I was pretty dubious when I picked it up because the sticker on the side of the box says "92 - On Ford Escort/Ma". I figure right away that this kit is for a 1.8L BP tranny, but who knows. The internal parts might be exactly the same. The guy says if it's wrong he'll take it back so I decide to give it a go.

So yesterday I tore into my parts tranny from my old 94' GS. Well every bearing in the kit I got was wrong. The axle seals were correct, but the output shaft seal is too small...leading me to believe that it was actually a kit for an F series tranny. On the up side though, I found out that my parts tranny is in excellent condition and does not need to be rebuilt at all. Bearings are perfect, synchros are in great shape. New axle seals and it'll be ready to go into the Purple Beast with a new clutch and a few other goodies.

So i got the word from Corksport that my JDM bumper will be in Vancouver, WA this week. My Dad will be picking it up for me the next time he has a run through there so I will not have to pay shipping. So with the exchange rate I will wind up paying ~$1000CDN for the bumper, the lip and the factory switch. Depending on how well I do on the fogs I think this whole kit will cost me about the same as the used EBAY one would have.

I am going to have a very, VERY busy spring.
