Almost ready for paint? Molding and suggestions plz!

Post by SuperK »

OK guys, I am done with the outer body/body parts. I acquired all the OEM parts for the car (I think). The skirts, lip, spoiler, mudguards. Am I missing anything? I'm shying away from everything aftermarketey and keeping mazda original.

K, so I'm ready for paint (well, almost. I have a bit over a grand saved for paint. Not too far to go)

I would like your opinions on molding in the skirts and the lip... I can't think of anything else that'd look nice molded in...

I think the MX is all about smooth, sleek curves. If I were to eliminate the rough lines from the added parts and have them smoothed and molded in, would that be, in your opinion, a good or bad idea?

What else am I missing before it goes in for paint? Any suggestions on what extra to do with the car before spraying?

I asked the MOCA crew and I got these responses:

Shave Antenna/washer nozzles
Debadge
Mold ONLY skirts, if anything.

Any other suggestions and opinions? I would like to know. My lip is damaged and kind of hangs in the middle, so I was hoping for a solution to fix it and make it look smooth and sleek.

other than that shave your antenna, washer nozzles and debadge and i say your set.

Do it like the green MX-3! Not like out of nowhere side skirt! Side skirts are not for mx-3s unless is the MAZDASPEED one (small one that corksport sells) :D

that's the OEM sideskirt. It matches the height of the OEM lip and mudguards... now granted it doesn't match with the grey/black/teal/champagne/flat black combination I'm sportin'

but it does match very well fitment and size-wise

Cars going to look great once it is painted! I agree with the MOCA guys, I would not mold anything if it was me, but shaving the antenna sounds good. (I want to do that to mine)

I  the stock side skirts you have....want to sell them  , they are even the same color as my mx-3.

The only exterior oem body mod, that I can think of that is missing, would be the factory/oem option rear hatch shade. Corksport makes a fiberglass replica, but the originals are a transparent black, like the vent guards for side windows. Some do not like it, I do, but as far as oem add-ons go, I think that is it.

I wouldnt worry about molding on sideskirts, it will crack later on and will look horrible. I like factory emblems on mx-3, as long as its clean stock look it will look nice. Which color are you painting it?

Just mold the rear mudguards and shave the antenna/rear washer.
Just another Mx3 freak :)

Not if you do it right like mine and make sure there is no movement at all then they won't crack!

But I would agree shave the antenna (make sure there is a metal piece welder in place or it WILL CRACK do to the vibration from constant opening and closing the door!) Don't do the sides cause it makes it difficult to remove the fender for whtever reason! :welder:

I agree with colin....

shave antenna, front hood nozzles, rear hatch nozzle, and debadge it... that's it...

I would not mold side skirts or mudguards... they fit close enough that it still looks good IMO

Erm... isn't kind of handy to have the front hood nozzles, though?
It's not a GS so it doesn't have the rear nozzle or wiper arm.

I don't have front wipers nozzles and if your driving it in the summer only then you don't need it cause it's the snow that makes it all muddy!

lol @ getting rid of the hood nozzles... you need it! What happens if a bird poops on your windshield while driving

IIRC it's also part of the safety cert checklist, at least in Ontario.

Over here we have to have them :( Which involved drilling into CF bonnet. They don't really bother me visually, and I do find them useful :)
