possibly be able to make oem sides.

Post by projectzemx3 »

my dad works for a aerodynamic truck faring company. he explained to me how to make a mold from my oem sides and then how to produce my own home made fibre glass sides. now i know fibre glass is bad for breaking but the solution to that is.... dont hit them off anything :)

im going to try and make a few sets just to see if i can and then maybe if i can make them for a good price i will possibly sell them! ide really just like to cover my costs and make some spare change for coffee money :)

i got my old man to bring me home some fibre glass hopefully ill make a good first mold and can start making duplicates. or like everything i do ill get it on the fourth or fifth time around :P

That's great. Learning new things is always fun. I'm sure some of the guys on here can give you some pointers on how best to make them durable. I'll give you a heads up though. Before you try to sell something like this on the forum, make sure you get moderator approval, and make sure you've got some good shots of the production process and final product. We've had the poor luck of having a lot of bad sales experience with certain sellers.

Also, I think Oscar at Pakfeifer may be making some replica OEM sides in fiberglass and carbon fiber. Check that out.

If shipping wouldn't be too much from where you are, I'd pay you to make me a hood. It would be ALOT easier.

True, but he is busy with the CF hatch and whatever CF stuff he is making. I want a set of FB OEM sides over winter and put them on my car by spring. Whoever has em first I will buy as long as the price is not rediculous

haha whoa im going to experiment with sides first, they seem pretty straight forward. a hood i would have to make a way for it to latch... how i would be able to make it compatible with the hood latchs is beyond me. as far as bolting it to the latch that is. a hood actually would be pretty hard. front lip is possible too. ill see how my sides go and if its worth making them for sale.

Hood Pins :D No Need for a latch, Or you can let the buyer worry about fabbing a latch.

Yeah, if you just made the top piece with reinforcement, I would attatch it with hood pins in the front, and hood pins into the strut bar.
I was going to just lay for layers of the weaved type on top of my hood, in 4 different grain directions, and lay beads of "Great Stuff" gap filler criss-crossing the bottom, about 2 feet apart, and then lay 2 layers of strips over the stuff, when it dries.
