Weird Whining noise

Post by xSocialx »

Ok so,

My mx-3 just got a bunch of bass put in but there's a weird, loud and really annoying noise coming from the all speaker, it kinda sounds like (but has nothing to do with this) the whining power steering makes some times, but it's constant and LOUD!! any ideas?

I believe this is because either the ground is not good or you need bigger gauge cables... somebody correct me if I'm wrong...

Well, I've had them hooked up before and they worked fine. One day they just started acting up. MY buddy told me that it could be any one of the wires touching the frame and grounding itself. But the noise is only coming from the back 2 speakers and the subs. Not the front speakers. I checked my back speaker wires behind the radio but they seem fine. I'm stuck.

Is it constant or does it follow the RPM of the engine?

Well it won't get louder but it will follow the RPM's getting higher pitched through out the RPM range. But at idle it's constant

There are several reasons why this would happen.

First I would trace and track all your ground wirings on the amplifiers. Clean and clear them as well as possible, and make sure you have the right gauge for your amp setup.

This is just a precautionary measure, shouldn't SOLVE it. Pay attention to ANY cable that might be pinched. A pinched cable would cause it.

Next is to check if you have any EMF interference. Poor shielding.

Pull out your head unit and disconnect your antenna and shield it from the head unit and anything surrounding it. Shield your RCA cables. If there is a wire or connection that needs shielding, do it. Your problem is most likely due to poor shielding.

Speaker cable gauge shouldn't affect anything.

you can also test to see if you're getting EMF by taking some type of RF transmitting device and placing it near your sound system while the system is running.

I would also suggest running a capacitor from the wiring harness to the head unit, to filter the ripply power flow from your car and clean out any ignition-based interference.

Back when dinosaures roamed the earth I had a similar problem. Turned out the ignition wires were bad. Just a thought.

EDIT: Yes back when every kids dream was to have a Kraco stereo and Craig power play individually amplified speakers. THD was around 15.

So I think I've solved the problem. If you look into my work log

viewtopic.php?f=46&t=66209" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The lighter red wire (to the left) is missing entirley, I can't find it anywhere. My hood also won't close so I think that someone tried to disable my car alarm or my immobilzer because when I arm my car it beeps twice, but no more beeps. Still locks and everything, the immobilizer still works, just no beeps.....I live in a pretty rough part of town so this is not a far fetched theory.

The reason Most likely that you are not getting the siren to chirp but the doors still lock is because your alarm is in valet mode.

depending on the type of alarm you have there is many different types of ways to take the alarm in and out of valet mode, if this is the case the led should most likely be on solid aswell so check that and if it is then 100% valet mode.

worst case sinario if thats not the case than the siren could also have a bad or rusted out ground with again will not let the siren chirp.

As for engine wine it could be many different things such as wiring or equipment quality but for the most part its either installation related or rca cable related which means they are not very good quality so they dont do a very good job of shielding out any outside interference. This normally called GROUND LOOP interference. check ground location and just for the heck of it take the RCA's out of the amplifier or deck (doesnt matter which ones) and take a piece of copper primary wire and rap it around the end of the rca on the outside and then touch it to ground and if the noice disapears then you know you have a deck that has weak internal rca ground or poor quality cables.

Its not very easy to trouble shoot noice unless you truly understand how things work and how they should be properly installed.

Hope that helps and good luck! feel free to pm me or email me if you like with any other questions.

Well that's a lot of good information!

But all my equipment was working perfectly and then one day my alarm speaker stopped working and the speakers were whining and that one wire on the battery is MIA. I think it was pulled off and the other end is resting on the body....sound like an alright theory?
