My first race ever! 14.7 @ 92.99 w/ a DE

Post by fowljesse »

This is pretty much the same message I put on the 1/4 mile list.. I'm excited!

My shifter is sloppy, but I can't put in my short shifter until I take off the resonater, which I'll do when I put on the headers. My clutch slipped in the higher gears. I've got codes for both O2 sensors, I think because my exhaust manifolds might be loose. My TPS is off, since I took it off to mess with making my CAI. I put it back at the marks I made before I took it off, but it's definitely not right..

My 1st run I got 14.89. 2nd run, 14.771 @ 92.99. That was my best. The 3rd, (and last) run was about the same as the first 14.831. My 60' times were from 2.03 to 2.22, and my best reaction time was .168. I have alot to learn about not spinning the tires, and shifting at the right time!
My engine is a KLDE with ZE pistons, and either exhaust, or intake cams. Cjthor will post the slips, and a video on YouTube.
I'll run again after I fix my issues, and put on my headers, and ext coil.

Thanks, bro!
Yeah, I REALLY can't wait for Auto-X. Let's buy a bunch of cones, and go to Wal-Mart, or the abandoned airport in Vancouver!

oh dude I didn't know there was an abandoned airport around here... I would be totally down for that!!! we could also bring some fast food trays and practice drifting as well :freak:

Yes!
Unfortunately, the Airport is near a main road, but I can have Sarah talk to her connections at the Air Museum, to see what we can work out.

i got fired from tim hortons for doing tray slides in my RS on my midnight shift. now thats a good mx3 story. tray slides are wicked if you do it right you can spin in a complete circle forever. i would never do it again with my GS though.... i want to go to a track so badly. quarter mile times are cool but its the auto x that our cars will do good at, with the short geared transmissions :)

Jesse, If I understood this right...

You have a KLDE (Probe, not millenia) motor.
You have KLZE (JDM) Pistons.
You have KLZE (JDM) Exhaust & Intake Camshafts.

Is that what your saying? ... Nothing else?

Correct, except only the exhaust are ZE cams. The manifold is an '02 626. And I have a short intake that's not actually CAI, for now. You can see it in my worklog, but in there I still have the CAI hooked up.

And... Whats your hp?
This makes me think more of a DE... Isnt the millenia ze even faster?

It had 179 HP, last dyno on 89 octane gas. I estimate it closer to 200 now. The guy did it with that gas, because he thought it wouldn't make a difference. The thing about this car is that it was built for low end, and better HP through the powerband, rather than peak HP. I think it works well, because these engines were designed this way, that's why they have VRIS. You see, without VRIS, you have a higher peak HP, but for a very short amount of time, and when people tweak them for peak HP, it's kind of the same.. you have more power, but for just a split second, before you shift to a significant drop in HP, and if you don't shift perfectly (too soon, or too late), you fall off that peak quickly. With mine, you have available power throughout the powerband for the gear setup. I should post my dyno chart.
Let me know if this doesn't make sense

If he has ZE Pistons, I would classify it as a ZE because of the compression. Which is really the only difference, Cams depend on where you want your power.

Sorry, this isn't true. The ZE's have higher flowing heads, and intake manifold, and no EGR. It's somewhat true about the cams, but I think they have slightly longer duration, and possibly more lift... I'm curious so I'll look into it. The coil is external on the ZE, and I think it's stronger. I think the valves are different, too, but am not sure.
The higher compression is about half of the difference, though. AFAIK, the people with ZEs that are getting similar, or worse times aren't using important ZE stuff, like engine management, and aren't tuned. Suspension, and motor mounts play a role in it, too.

Yeah, a true ZE with all the right stuff is about 200 peak HP. Mine is about 187, but, like I said, I have a broader powerband.
