MX-3 at Burning Man

Post by fowljesse »

While @ "The Burn" I rode around the 40ish miles of streets constantly, because even doing this, I still missed ALOT. This year, I rode with my girlfriend on a motorized tandem bicycle, and did about 200 miles. All the while, I had an eye out for an MX-3. I figured with about 90,000 revellers, almost all with style, I'd see at least one. However, the way we build the city is; we take a spot on a block (the city starts out as a series of 12 streets in concentric circles, divided by radial streets, marked by their location on a clock, e.g., 12:00, 12:30, 1:00, etc..) A person, or mostly, camp of people take a spot, park their vehicles in the middle, and put their structures up to the street... So you don't usually see the vehicles. I didn't see an MX-3 until we got to the first town big enough to stop on the way back. I knew it had been there by the dust on it, and the telltale "necessities" it was packed with, from floor to ceiling, and around the drivier. To me, an MX-3 being there is as important as seeing it in a movie, or on TV. I kind of hoped to see one made into an Art Car, but am glad that I didn't, since vehicles that resemble normal automobiles aren't allowed to drive in the city, except to get to your spot.
Anyway, here it is:

I hoped that someone would ask why I was taking a picture of their car, but it takes ALOT to get a rise out of this crowd  He probably wouldn't have broken his stride if I were taking a picture of naked girls on his car.

It was awesome again! Thanks for asking :)
And dusty.. But actually it was the least dusty I've seen in a few years. It just seemed like a big deal, since the high winds were just before the burn, and knocked out the power to The Man just before the burn, causing it to be late. It was the only actual white out. I'm glad, though... It broke up the routine, and chased away the "tourists" The bad part about the dust was that the plain that it is on didn't flood in the spring, like it usually does, so there was deep dust in places that was hard to get through.
Also, it usually gets to about 105 degrees during the day, and down to the 50s at night, but this year was very mild, and even had cloud cover alot of the time. I didn't need to run the A/C (especially since we painted the RV bright silver!) It was nice at night, too.
Here's us in the painting proccess
