Buying a Probe GT (KLZE). Good Deal or Bad Deal?

Post by mrmike420 »

A guy is selling a 1995 probe GT with a KLZE motor in it for $800. The motor was swapped in July of 2007 and has been parked since January 2008 b/c it wouldn't pass the smog emissions. The car has been started 2x a month since then. Since his job just gave him a company car as a daily driver, he wants to part with it. He claims the motor is in near perfect condition, there is no oil burning or leaks. He claims the ZE came from a Cali company called C.A.T. or something close to that. My intent with the car is to swap out the motor and put it in my 92 MX-3 GS and then put my original motor in the probe and sell it. I'm gonna take a look at the car this weekend. I just wanted to get other peoples feedback on whether this is considered a good or bad deal so far?

Sounds good. I'm kinda curious why it wouldn't pass a clean air. Do you guys have a Hot Rod staus clean air check policy.

I know you believe that you understand what you think I said but I'm sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

I'm not sure, but i know it's pretty strict... I didn't pass either with my current setup b/c of my nox levels... I was .5 (or something close to that) over. LOL

EGR is there to reduce the NOX by circulating some exhaust back into the combusion chamber, if you don't hook it up your NOX will be high. On the ZE there's no hole into the cyls for the exhaust to go. I hooked mine up so I wouldn't get a code. Go to your DMV and ask if they have a HotRod status for custom cars.

What? The ZE's have a hole for the EGR on the head. Its just the ZE manifolds from Japan dont have the hole on the intake manifold
