96 MX3 parts
96 MX3 parts
Are the parts for a 96 the same as the parts for a 95. Alot of places don't even list the 96 on their sites. I have a 96 MX3 precedia with the 1.8L and since the last owner didn't take care of it, I have been trying to find parts to bring it back.
Re: 96 MX3 parts
the reason why you won't see some places post parts for the 96 is because Mazda stopped selling the mx-3 after the 95 year in the US. I don't know for sure, but I would imagine a lot of the parts off a 95 will work with the 96 but keep in mind that the 96 is the first year that they incorporated the OBD-II system in the mx-3.
Re: 96 MX3 parts
So for sure the computer would be different. The funny thing is most of the places I have found the 96 listed is in the US.
thanks for the information,

Re: 96 MX3 parts
I've had issues too as almost every US listing only shows 1.6 for 96. What parts are you looking for? O2 sensors are definitely different and of course the engine harness/ ECU and the disty. I find quoting a 94 is the easy way to go as just about every parts listing has the 1.8 under 94.

Re: 96 MX3 parts
Are all the suspension parts the same for the 94 as the 96. Need to get links and probably other suspension parts. Have a check engine light flashing and am hoping its not a part perticular to the 96, really fustrating when it says the part is for a 93-95, does it fit or does it not. Where can one find a manual for this car???

Re: 96 MX3 parts
Aside from electrical, 94-96 are all the same. Damn near any part for the 94,95 will work for the 96.
Re: 96 MX3 parts
If you plan on keeping the car ansd possibly customizing it buy OBD2 scan tool. Then you can connect a Laptop and check out the codes yourself. Additional software will help diagnose the fix as well. The one I bought cost $85.00 + shipping. Anyway I took struts and wheels from a 92 for my 96. The only issue with those is in 92 the ball joint shaft was a smaller diameter. If you check with the parts person at the Dealership they'll tell you if any part is 96 specific. Example, O2 sensors are, crank sensor isn't.

Re: 96 MX3 parts
I don't know why but it seems that alot of places don't know that a the Mx-3 was around in 96, but it's scarse and only in Canada. In the US, the GS model was discontinued after 93 (I found out not long ago that Mooneggs had a 94 GS, so where were some with the rounded dash that did make it to the US) so ya, you'll only find the DOHC 1.6 in their listings. Even my Mitchell1 doesn't show GS models after 94, so I dont have any diagrams i can pull for the OBDII guys. Mitchell1 doesn't list any Mx-3's for 96.
There should be minimal differences between all years in terms of mechanical and system electrical. As Daninski mentioned the ball joints were difference in 92, and the later years (94+ i believe) have a larger rear sway bar. As for the engine electronics, the OBDII Mx-3's started to trickle out in 94, most of the 95's being OBDII and as far as I know, ALL 96's are OBDII. If your having a hard time with parts because of your 96-year'd Mx-3, try 95 and work your way down if you have to. But for the non-engine-electrical, they should all be the same 100% the same for 94-96.
As far as I can tell, the Mx-3 was not available at all in the US after 95, reason why some places will probably only list 92-95 is if they're getting their records from suppliers/distributors in the US. So don't panic that it seems that your Mx-3 doesn't exist.

Re: 96 MX3 parts
I bought this one, it's very easy to use you just need a Laptop. The MX-3's protocol is ISO 9141-2 http://www.obdpros.com/product_info.php?products_id=133" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I think the Laptop can be anything from a 486 on. Here's some of the features I've posted in my work log. http://www.mx-3.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=65550" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: 96 MX3 parts
I picked on up at Canadian "crappy tire"... 200 bucks, no laptop needed. You can get ones for about half that. All you need to do is plug the damn thing into the port under the passanger side dash. It will tell you what errors you are getting and it will allow you to clear them.
They are pretty much standard. My reader works on pretty much anything I plug it into.
Buy it, check and clear your errors and then take the thing back.

Re: 96 MX3 parts
The obdII are always on ebay for about 50 or so bucks. It will pay for itself in the first use.

Yes RS_OBD'oh_2 but you don't get the versatility and the high teck feel I get when I use my reader. Like I said for $19 bucks I can buy additional software that will tell me how to fix it. Really good for Knobbies. Tell me where you live and I'll tell you if you have a hope in hell of coming to my house TOOgreezy. I'd be more than happy to read your codes.
