loose Shifting

Post by Coadt »

I have just bought a 96 MX3 with a 1.8l and its my first. I have noticed its hard to find the gears. I have been driving a stick for a long time and this is the one of the hardest. Is this normal (don''t think so) and how can I correct this problem. I am looking at a short shifter would that solve the problem or is there bushing that need to be replaced.

Get lots of penatrant. Go to the dealer and order new bolts front and back and 4 plastic grommets that go in the linkage. Install the new bolts and gromments and your shifter will be like new. I just did mine and it went from sloppy to slicker than snot on a roosters lip. Be advised, which ever way you go getting the bolts out is tough. Soak them first then I found using a pneumatic impact chisel the best way to drive the bolts out.

I know you believe that you understand what you think I said but I'm sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.
