by the way, R12 is quite expensive still, so a shop will be more than willing to take what's left from your car.

Some shops will even steal it and you wont know untill it's too late.

and THATS why over the years i have learned to do repairs myself..95% of mechanics are shady.

I would suggest also taking it to a shop and have them evacuate the remaining r12.

The oils in the R12, when mixed with R134, will congeal and lock up your compressor.

When I retrofitted my old truck, this is what happened. I thought I had it all out but there was still oil left.

That is why it's important to use the R134 conversion kit. The oil in this kit will not react with any traces of the old R12 oil.

I have seen conversion kits at some of the discount auto parts (Auto Zone, etc.) that have an oil that you meerly add to the system and it suppossedly changes the oil so it works, but none the seminars I have attended could recommend such an additive or even understand how it could work.

you can do it right, or you can do it... the "discount" way.

Purge the system of R12 and it's oil. It's the best way.

All R12 must be evacuated First. BTW in the US you must be licensed to work on A/C containing R12. So again, the best bet is to bring it to a know good establishment to purge and remove any R12 refrigerant gas. It's the law and we don't want to keep messing up our only planet we have. Right?

Good to know, I almost bought a conversion kit and did it myself, but now I'll get it purged first. My interest in saving the planet is that it's usually cheaper to go green, probably not it this case tho lol.
