aww, I see it now. Nice engine, too bad you are going to tear it out and put the BP in (sounds like you are). But then you'll get to do the same thing to the BP.

I am having an AWESOME CAR DAY!!!

I am completely pumped.

I hit the scrap yard today.

BP TB compared with my SOHC TB, and a grill frm an 70's Fiat. You can figure out my plan.

I also bought a panel and hinge for the back, because I broke mine trying to cram my bike back there.

There was a 2nd gen RX7 there and I almost shat myself with joy, but the VAF was taken, along with the intire IM.

Also, there are two Escort GT's, with perfect BP's. BP05-8-1 I believe was the code on them. One engine has 180K. The engine will cost me $100, the tranny $75, axles probably $50 for both. I'll need a newer...pressure plate or disc? I forget already. but I figure the cost at ~$400. I'm going to go pull it next satuday if I can. Its actually happening!!! Woot!

today, I'm going to clean that TB, fix my condensed tails and work on that grill.

I'm Excited!!!

Also, I painted my dome light

Taking it apart was fun, if you want to and don't know exactly whar you're doing or you simply don't want to break something because thats just how your projects go... feel free to ask for for pointers :)

cool man. I've been having pretty good car days too recently. The rebuild is coming along nicely. I'll post a worklog when I am close to done.

What are you getting the hood replaced with?

Is the dome light brighter now? Looks like you painted the inside black?

I wouldn't know how bright it is now, I don't often use it. I like the cabin dark, even my guages are almost off at night. I would say it hasn't changed much. The stock tan pastic versus a semi-gloss wouldn't be much of a difference. You could mount a little mirror behnd the bulb, like in halogen lights.... or I want to buy a whackload of superbright 10mm LED's off of ebay and put them in all the stock light locations...

And I'll replace my hood just with another stock hood, just less rusty. Maybe I'll slam a huge cardboard scoop on it.

Question.... When doing a BP swap, everything on here says, for into an SOHC, you need the engine and the ECU, with wires for the VRIS or VCIS or VIRS, whatever the acroynm is. Do you also need stuff like the intake and exhaust manifold, alternator, pump, or are those interchangable?

edit, use all of the BP parts, but the B6 PS pump. Maybe you can use the alty and stuff, depends on the belt type.

Need the BP I/M, you can use the B6 exhaust.

I have those exact products in my collection. Good stuff.
I like your "oputside the box" thinking with the grill. I need to get to the yard, and find stuff like that, for my "extreme" aero mods. I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

I am only so-so happy with the prospect of that grill. I was looking for a denser, honeycomb one like on the 03 F150's. We'll see how it goes. For $5, I can't go terribly wrong :)

AWESOME HAUL!!!

You wonder why I love the junk yard? You won't after reading this here post :)

My mechanic and I hit the yard! It was raining... NEVER go to scrap yards on rainy days. It is uber sucky. Regardless, being hardcore, we managed to pull an auto transmission. We collected 6 spare tires and propped it up, stole trunk carpet and laid it all over, lay on back seat cusions and went at 'er. 45 minutes later, We hauled it back to the truck. At one point I was standing on the engine bay, straddling the transmission, one foot on the cowl, the other on the front frame, holding up this transmission so it doesn't fall hard.. daaaang those can be heavy... but it was tolerable :) just hurt my back, construction is bad for that, I bend over all day everyday, working on the ground...

Anyway, my spoils :)

Image

A complete, broken in one spot, GS lip, and a perfectly good front strut bar. Guess how much?

$15.

Suck on that :D

I never pulled my BP. The weather was too bad, and the only BP there with a manual had 218K on it... I need to think about it if it has that many K... but on the other hand, my mechanic found someone with an MX who needs a new SOHC... he said they can look and see mine run and take it away for $500. I paid $300.... He's so awesome :)

I also want to wire in two switches this week in the evenings after work... I want a switch for the door chime, because I like sitting listening to music with the doors open, and one for my amp powering my sub. Remote wire switch.

Has anyone put switches into the spots... Okay, the '93 dash, without the swivel vents, the buttons where your rear defog and hazard lights are? on the other side of the wheel... how can you turn those into switches/buttons?

I haven't posted in here in awhile, not that anyone really cares... I don't do awesome mods like turbos and swaps and other sexy things... at least not yet....

What have a I done recently...

-Cut out the original grill in the bumper.... moved the PS cooler up so it isn't visible... fitted the next grill, just deciding how to mount it.
-Found out what subs distorting sounds like.
-Attempting to remove my whole IM and replace it with my pretty one. Just a note for you guys, don't try to undertake any lengthy task with the girlfriend. It only gets lengthier, even if she is interested in vehicles.... I'll finish 80% of the work tomorrow in half the time I spent on it today. I also broke a little valve.... but I think I clamped it back together okay. the one at the top left corner of the SOHC VC.
-the BP IS coming, I'm in the searching process. I wish I could win the lotto or something, money is uber tight...
-Starting to cut out a square in one of the switch 'panels' beside the e-brake... for my sub remote wire. I have a nice little toggle switch, its not gay and colourful, its discreet and nice.
-painted my GS lip, needs fitted and repaired.

Pictures tomorrow :) Come back and visit if you care :)

Of course we care. Can't wait to see pics. I know what you mean by money being tight. I am so close on my rebuild but also so close to being broke. I should have a work log soon. My main thing right now is the axles.

Hope you get to do the BP swap. Cheers :D

So... I exchanged my IM today.

Don't do it! Its not worth it! That was the most frustrating thing I have done all year. Five bolts on top, four on the bottom, nearly impossible to get to, lots of hoses that leak coolant or gasoline.... I managed to break one o-ring for my fourth injector and when I started her up again I had missed my TP sensor, some other sensor attatched to the TB, and a coolant hose.... and that one injector was spewing gasoline all over the place.... it was terrible. I should have checked much more before starting it.

Good news is, I got everything running like it did before. I just managed to loose about half a litre of coolant and a eighth tank of gasoline (long story short I drove for awhile with a leaky injector) Also, its pretty! I would have pictures, well, I DO have pictures, but I don't have the cord to get them onto my computer....

I know what you mean about the intake. When I took the head off of my car I just left the intake on the head. WAY easier that way. My intake could use some shine too. For some reason the word VAF in orange letters was written on my intake and on my valve cover, but I painted my valve cover so it is not really noticeable.
