Ok, since I have come to realize that the sunroof I got from SuperK is a lot bigger than the stock moonroof, I'm going to need help from you guys with moonroofs. The Sunroof is bigger side to side, so those measurements won't do me any good, but I do need measurements of front to back. I would look at a mx-3 in the junkyard with one, but the only one with a moonroof has silicone all over. I'm not sure where the actual moonroof starts, lol.
If someone would be kind enough to measure the placement of the moonroof and post up the numbers, I'd much appreciate it. I just want to get the sunroof in the relative stock location as the moonroof.
Thanks a bunch!

Re: Moonroof Measurements Please
That is exactly what I wanted, thank you Hoodzy!
The only reason I consider the stock one to be a moonroof is that its the solid metal, where-as the one i have aquired is glass and it lets in the sun during the day
.
You are right though, its the same thing to us anyway. I guess its what you like more, the moon or sun, lol.

Re: Moonroof Measurements Please
can you take the metal frame from the new (old) sunroof and set it centered in the stock moonroof?
just set the frame and measure the difference from the new roof to the old roof. make sure the frame is exactly centered on the old roof, then sharpie around where you need to cut.
Remember, sharpie to the inside of the frame, not the outside of the frame.
I dunno if any of this makes sense

Re: Moonroof Measurements Please
A sunroof opens
A moonroof is just a window in the roof
That was my understanding.
Thats all I really wanted to say....
But won't you have to re-frame the new one and everything? I can't imagine this install will be easy... lots of sillycone... maybe some welding? upholstry to mask the interior seams? Maybe some uber quality weatherstripping?

Re: Moonroof Measurements Please
It makes sense. I would have prefered it have a similar location as the stock one, but it seems like I'll have to center it. The sunroof isn't as curved up front as the stock one (or so i think). It has to go further back where the roof is flatter. It doesn't matter to me really, it was just a personal preference. I'm still quite happy with it, I even accidentally figured out that the glass is removable, haha. I thought I broke it for a second.
Oh SuperK, so you know, I dont even have a sun/moonroof on my car. I'll just be cutting off alot of metal.
And Ryan, I planned to redo the ceiling upholstry in black anyway, so that's of no big concern.

Re: Moonroof Measurements Please
It's a MEGA SIMPLE sunroof design:

And I cleandeded it up:

So there's a thin 2 piece metal frame it sets on. both are lipped metal frames that look like this:
___
|
and the bottom piece:
|__
if you cross-cut the sunroof, it'll look something like this: (ignore the little ` marks)
``````````````__ GLASSGLASSGLASS __
roof enters here> _|````````````````|_ < roofenters here
```````````````^````````````````^
cut metal to the upward arrows (the ^ ones)
and silicone inside the lip, where the roof enters.
Just need a handy reciprocating saw, a sharpie to lay out where to cut, and possibly some pent-up anger. I don't know if any of this helps, but it's the best I can do with ASCII art
I am going back to the junkyards soon... I can take a picture of the car I had it ripped off of, so you can get an idea where it was placed.
The location it was originally in was perfect and looked like it was meant to be there.
not having the original moonroof will make things easier for you.

Re: Moonroof Measurements Please
Ah yes, that makes perfect sense to me. I had an idea that's how it went, but the confirmation from you is reassuring.
Since you say that where it was placed was "perfect", I'd love a pic of it, if its not much trouble.
OMG that thing was nasty. Thank you for taking the time to clean it.
