Half shaft wont line up after tranny swap?

Post by 0m3g4 »

Im have trouble getting my lower control arm back on the passenger side of the car its about 3/4 inch from the bolt hole...
i switched transys from a 92 mx-3 (sohc) to a 94 (dohc) an cant figure /see any way to get the lower control arm in..
any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated.. btw this was the half shaft that was in previous to the tranny swap. i got the driver side all lined up an its set only prob is passenger.

Not sure of why it won't or what, But I just swapped in a G-series in my 92 sohc and the passenger side axel I removed from my mx-3 sohc doesn't have the 3 bolt carrier bearing, it doesn't have one period.

damn it

the the 4cly 92-93 mx-3 comes with a single long axles on the passenger side

where the

4cly 94-96 mx-3 come with a half shaft and axle on the passenger side..

that clear up things NKY92MX3

and for 0m3g4 why the hell u take off the lower control arm.. i have never had to do removed it to install a tranny.
u just gave urself extra work..

u know u can use the long axle instead of using the halfshaft and short axle.. that what i did.

yah my 92 has the long shaft. thats what im trying to use.
but to clear things up (sorry if my explanation sux)what i took off was the 2 bolts underneath the rotor holding the lower control arm to the what ever that connects to. but regardless it still seems 1/2-3/4 inch too long... an makes no sense.
i previously was using the passenger side shaft in the other tranny it was fine then....

Okay you disconnected the lower tie rod/ball joint from the steering knuckle. This hard to put back together on some vehicles, I had no problem doing it myself on the mx-3.

Anyway what you need to do is line it up best you can, then you need to pry on the control arm until you can get the stud in the tie rod.(You May have to pull the steering knuckle away from the control arm to allow the control arm to go down passed the pinch nut on the back of the hub, I had to do this) Once you get the stud in the hole, thread the nut in and tighten until you can get the other bolt through then once you get them both through the control arm holes, tighten them down, torque them and your good. I hope this helps.
