Rediscovering My Car
Rediscovering My Car
it's funny how when you're a poor, broke, and jobless gentleman like myself, how easily i can loose all the excitement and hype about my MX-3. Although i still love driving it, that's about all i can do, and it often seems like all the ambitious plans i made when i got it last summer have faded to black. well i recently got a job at Home Depot and the first paycheck i got, I installed a keyless entry and alarm system on my car after i was robbed in the bay area. this was more out of a necessary desire, but now i have plans to put in a subwoofer, repaint the car (because the cheap white paint is finally flaking
), and drop in a KLZE or DE. I'm once again as excited and eager to get her looking and running mint. It's a wonder why I was so slow to get a job. I hope you enjoyed my rant, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who's had this happen to them before.

Re: Rediscovering My Car
I totally no how you feel man, Im poor, broke but not jobless. Every 2 weeks when my paycheck comes around (i only work part time at shoppers) Its seems that its gone the day after. Between paying for gas, cell bill, school, and paying 150$ for my insurance a month it sucks. I find my self bumming my parents and my sisters for gas money :S. I had the same plans last year get painted get new manifold etc etc. I can't seem to conjure up any money what so ever
. Ive had my car up in the shed for the past 3 days not being able to drive it, trying to finish the body work with my friends and i realized that i friking love that car. I keep telling my self that someday when i get out of school and get a good job that my car is going to be a beast.

Re: Rediscovering My Car
Well guys, I am not poor broke, or jobless, and I love this car too
I am not rich by any means, but I could be driving my other cars, but I like this one.(mx-3)
There is something about this car that makes my love driving and owning it.
Even though it is a bit small...Although, I think that could be why I like it...with a turbo, this thing ricks in mild traffic. You can zip in and out of traffic as if it were an insect or something.
In my nova, or Z, as fast as they are, they are not that nimble.
Mx-3's are just plain fun to drive.
cheers

Re: Rediscovering My Car
i'm the opposite, I have a good amount of money coming in but don't know what i want to do, so far it seems like i'm pushing towards a klze powered 323 but i dont know the awd mx3 is still in my mind kicking around sigh... Being poor and not being able to do anything i think is easier than having money and not being able to decide what to do.

Re: Rediscovering My Car
I myself am not rich or poor. However it seems at times, that when I want to hook my MX up with new paint, a front lip, good subwoofer with a quality amp and whatnot, it seems that more often than not, something always comes up. For example, tomorrow I am having my beloved MX towed to my mechanic to install a new water pump, that went out on me 2 nights ago... and the belt connected to it that broke off will be replaced as well. And I also told my mechanic to replace the timing belt, radiator hoses and thermostat while he's at it.
However, I care about my MX so much, that I did get her a Pioneer navigation deck to celebrate our 5 year anniversary a couple months ago
It's amazing though, because even though there are others cars I could be driving, all roads lead back to my MX-3, when it comes to the good vibes she gives me when I'm driving her or just checking her out when she's parked in the garage.

We MXers tend to have a strong positive affection for our MX's, and I truly believe we will always be united on that viewpoint. You can zip in and out of traffic as if it were an insect or something.
If you fall, then get back up........Luck favors the prepared

Re: Rediscovering My Car
I'm a high school student, my MX-3 is the weakest one out there with no features. It's quite banged up from the previous owners, little dents all over the body. I hammered out the bad ones, but it still doesn't look prime. I work every saturday at a Mazda dealership (AWESOME assest, free use of car wash, hoist, shop tools, mechanic advice/service and discount on Mazda parts
), and occassional other farm labour (pays good though, 12-15/hr) I have NO MONEY. I love my Mx-3..... but can't give her what she deserves. Although, I have a newer hood, spoiler, and subs and amp that i'm working on, slowly. My drivers tire is currently flat and I think my drivers side axel is shot. Now I'm driving my mothers Sentra around untill I can get new tires (hopefully rims too?) As much as I can't afford to have a super nice MX-3, I would love to have 5 grand or so to fix 'er up completely. Its kinda depressing, having no money and big dreams...

Re: Rediscovering My Car
My advice is don't worry about rims and subs & amps until your car is fixed up to the point where you are happy with it. A new axle or some dent removal may not seem as cool as rims or a stereo system, but the alternative is basically like putting perfume on a pig... you're not fooling anyone.Ryan wrote:I'm a high school student, my MX-3 is the weakest one out there with no features. Re: Rediscovering My Car
Its not to fool anyone, its what I want. The axel came up last saturday when I turned left from a light and it sounded like I was scraping the curb. Freaked me out, but I was definately clear... and the tire deflates when I park on it at a certain spot.. so thats a definate soon. The body panels will be too much to make perfect...unless I find out a good DIY idea. so it was pretty good till last week
And if the money presents itself, I'll get tires to match rims, so when I do eventually buy rims I won't have to buy tires again, too... Its just slow. But you're right, I should maybe rearrange priorities, but the opportunites presented themselves and I got excited and just went for it (spoiler and hood -$50 subs and 6x9's - virtually free. engine and clutch - $1000. Still love my car

Right on. I didn't mean any disrespect, just giving you my opinion is all. You actually sound like you're being pretty mature about your decisions.Ryan wrote:Its not to fool anyone, its what I want. Re: Rediscovering My Car
screw that lol since i was 17 i have been broke, now that i have some money, i still live like i'm broke lol cause thats the life style i've become custom to. Imagine it like this, Your used to have just enough cash to get you buy with maybe a little extra, Now you want to go spend that little extra but your worried about, well what if i need it for something else thats a need and not a want. I have the same issue now. Where i have money i'm always feeling i shouldnt spend it just in case something happens

Re: Rediscovering My Car
I'm the same way.
Now that I'm living off a very small residual income from a company I sold, and getting a pittance from performing as an acrobat, I spend all of it, but when I had the company, and made more than I could spend, I hoarded it, with the exception of "business" expenses.
As for the car, I feel the same as NoCalMX3. The timing belt went, and after replacing it, and everything in there, it felt like it ran at 97%, so I did a compression test, and it stopped running. I became disenchanted, and bought another one. I still haven't found out what the problem is on the first one.
