the piston?? don't scrape the piston for now :) just use a gasket scraper or something of that sort to scrape the carbon off the TOP of the cylinder.

I dont think Im going through with the honing cause my friend who just rebuilt his motor, said its probably not worth it. So I scratched off most of the carbon with a credit card, nothing noticeable for scratches, I want to get all that carbon out anyway right haha, and Ill know for sure after that

I'm in the middle of doing a couple of motors.

Most modern imports have hard cylinder walls and they don't wear that much. If you can't feel a ridge at the top of the cylinder and you can still see a little cross hatch then all you need is a light hone often called a glaze break. This gives the cylinder wall enough of a bite for the new piston rings to wear into. The pistons usually wear a lot faster than the cylinder walls. If you can afford it grab a new set off of eBay (not that expensive and a lot come with new rings) and put those in. You'll have to pay about $15 per cylinder to have the shop install the piston on your connecting rod though.

If you can't see a cross hatch and there is a groove at the top of the cylinder than you can TRY the above procedure but it may smoke and burn oil. If you take the bare block to a machine shop it is usually $20 a cylinder to bore and hone the cylinder to new pistons. Oversize pistons and rings are generally the same price as stock size.

As for the carbon, use a wire wheel and be gentle on edges. If you don't have a shop wire wheel then get a little one that goes in a drill. You can try a putty knife or something like that but DO NOT scratch anything.
