Hello everyone! I am new to this site and just purchased a 1992 MX-3 GS. The car is about a 10 hour drive away and I was thinking about purchasing a tow bar to haul it back. I found one at Harbor Freight for like $60.
I have never used a tow bar before, can this be easily installed onto the MX-3? It has a rectangle metal plate with two holes in it and says to bolt to the bumper brackets and/or supports. Has anyone here used one to tow their car? Any thoughts or input?
Thanks!
Jason

Probably not a good idea if you're thinking of towing the car on a trailer...., that is a LOT of weight for the MX-3 to handle, not just pulling but stopping as well.
It might be a better idea to get the car transported to you, or if it is driveable, fly there n drive back
FWIW, my towbar connected to the tow hooks and also bolted up under the spare tyre well...., it was only rated to 1000kgs

Re: Questions on using tow bar...
if you decide to go pick it up you could rent a tow dolly from u-haul and bring it back that way. I used that when I moved from TN to OH... I would trust that more than the towbar...
on my most recent move (2 weeks ago) I used a full trailer from Uhaul to transport my mx-3... not a good idea if the mx-3 is lowered as it was quite complicated to load and unload

Re: Questions on using tow bar...
I just picked up a '93 GS with a tow dolly. The front air dam hit the dolly...I usually take a couple of 2x4's or 2x6's that reach from the start of the tow dolly ramps to where the wheels rest to raise it up a little and prevent damage. Should be able to rent one for about the same cost as the tow bar.
