Tire gone square.

Post by Jepha »

So after my car sitting all winter with a flat tire, now its gone wavy. When i went and got her inspected the other day he told me i would have to replace it. So i went and got one priced today (265$) theres apparently none on the island. I can't afford a brand new one right now. My question is: My tires are 17' 205/40zr, my friend just replaced all of his tires on his MR2 and told me i can have one if it will fit, they are in great shape but they are 215 width and not the same rating. Will they still fit for now?

If they are 215/40/17 then those are actually better then 205/40/17 which are actually to small for a 17" tire on our cars IMO. It will work for you,. But you should consider runinng 215/40's all round

I highly recommend that you change the tire on the other side also(make both front or both rear the same.)

You understand that there is a difference in the overall diameter between a 205/40 and a 215/40 tire right? 23.457" vs. 23.772". It's not a large difference, but it will affect your speedo by a mile or two. And as Seven said, if they're not the sae size on both sides, they will wear funny...and quickly.
