Wierdest functioning mods?

Post by fowljesse »

I've done alot of wierd mods on many cars, and am wondering what things others have done, and what was accomplished.

The strangest things I've done to my MX-3 are:
Before I knew about Phenolic spacers, I wanted to cool down the IM, because I drove from Houston, to Austin Texas in the summer, and the car would lose most of it's power.
I took the windshield washer line from the hood, and spliced in 8 lines that ended in the middle of the intake runners, with one spraying the top of the IM, and one just behind the throttle body. I used misters on the ends. When the engine got hot, I'd pull the washer lever (it had 100% distilled water in it) every few minutes. It worked! I may do it again, if I drag race, and put ice in it.

The other thing was a mock up of a ram air system. I put a K&N filter on the MAF, and hose clamped dryer ducting to it that went down to a plastic trapezoidal intake that was about 2.5 inches tall, and about 1 foot wide, and tapered down to the ovalized duct. It was under my lip spoiler. This worked geat until monsoon season.

Right now, I have a stainless steel martini shaker with the bottom cut out between the T/B, and the MAF. It looks and works perfect, and cost about a dollar at a thrift store.
Also, there is a air/ oil seperator between the PCV valve, and the IM.

So what have you done (out of the box) that works?

I did a heater for the windshield washer fluid container - i just inserted a bunch of heater element wires from an old toaster into the bottle and wired it up to a timer relay. It worked like a dream in clearing the ice from the windshield during snow storms and other cold winter days......

well....hmm, I gues firstly, I put a switch that adds resistance to the CLT sensor when under boost so the ecu will add more fuel.

works like a charm, 11:1 A/F all the way up to redline in 5th :P

I used a MAP sensor to read the boost and built an electronic curcuit that reads the pressure from the map sensor, and when it gets to a certain point, it add the resistance needed.

Other stuff too...but I will save that for when I have more time...

cheers

Wow, that windshield sprayer onto the IM is a great idea! I think I'm going to have to steal that idea from you for drag and autocross this summer.

Thanks! I thought I'd get ridiculed :) I was careful to not spray so much that it might hit the block, or heads, and possibly warp them. I used irrigation drip line from Home Depot, and misting ends. The finer you can get, the better.
Nice work Se7en. That's beyond me.

I'll have to post a pic or two tomorrow...It looks complicated, but it really isn't too bad.
