It seems that I find fewer and fewer people that really care if people drive drunk or not. To me this is absurd. I HATE the US's laws on drunk driving.

I go to school in a small town, and my girlfriend is a substitute teacher up here until I graduate. She was called in today because the guy in that article above killed a 12 yr old in a hit n run. Obviously, people will look at that and go wow, he should pay. However, that same man has been arrested and served time for drunk driving, and has over 7 DWI's since 2000. Drunk driving is far more dangerous than street racing, and I feel we need stronger laws like those seen in some European countries where if you drive drunk, you lose your license...permanently...

Why can't the politicians talk about things like this, rather than healthcare healthcare, iraq and who's not qualified?

Makes me sad to be an American.

Im sorry but i have to dissagree with you. Yes the laws should be a lot tougher, and yes it makes me mad that people decide to drink and drive, but forget about universal heathcare? there are way too many people in this country to just forget about it? It is a shame that another young life was wasted because of one stupid decision, but what if she had lived and needed to go to the hospital? how would her family have paid for all ogf the expences, a second morgage? a loan? All that im saying is for you to give it a second thought. There are things that can be done, just like you did in educating us about it.

I'm sorry I did not mean it to seem like I do not care about healthcare...that is totally opposite to how I feel. I worded it wrong. All the Democrats are talking about nowadays and bickering about is universal healthcare. It's one of the top issues, and rightly so, but they need to move on and talk about something else. We have not had new laws against drunk driving or political candidates talk about reform in who knows how long. "Forget about healthcare" is more of a call for the politicians to stop saying the same things over and over and over and over...

The reason people worry so much about healthcare in this country is that is so darn expensive. Many of you will find out, when you have kids how expensive healthcare really is. With medications, doctor visits, I probably spend $200-$300 a month. That doesnt include what comes out of my paycheck for health insurance. Nexium, for my acid reflux.. is $85 a month AFTER insurance costs. Alot of people cant even afford health insurance beucase stuff costs so much. Those who have FREE heathcare go to the doctor for everything, which drives up healthcare costs. Why is it that I pay so much for healthcare. Some guy decides he wants to jump the border, lives here illegally, gets his wife pregnant, and guess who gets free healthcare that I have to pay for with my tax dollars. I dont mind if people want to live in the US, but why should I have to pay for it? Morons in Washington have laws preventing heathcare companies from negotiating prescription costs with pharmaceutical companies. Ignorance.

Its hard enough trying to raise a family in an economy whos going downhill, then have to pay for rising heathcare.

free healthcare like medicare really pisses me off. When i was in college i made about 12-15k a year with no insurance. When i had to go to the hospital or doctors that cost came out of my pocket and it hurt bad. I didn't get any gov assistance for that, but yet a crack head down the street, can pretend he's sick just so he can have a nice warm bed for the night and all his cost are covered 100% Or someone who's nothing but a kid factory pumping out 1 baby after the other with no self respect to get themselves out from behind the counter of some POS fast food resteraunt can get assitance with no problem. This system sucks!! Yes I do understand there are people out there that do need the assitance and that without it they would be in serious trouble(elderly, low income families), but I mean come on either everyone gets it or no one. Who is the Government to say who's needs are greater than the other, the crack head gets a warm bed, the factory gets another bottle, the student trying to better himself gets the bill...

I know others dissagree but everyone can atleast agree that what we have now isn't working.

I agree 100%. My sister in law has a dead beat "baby-daddy". The prick has 3 kids, by 3 different girls, and decides to leave the state w/o paying her a dime. Now I understand she cant afford health insurance for her child and assistance is needed. But her situation, even though its not all her fault, is not something she can control. She doesnt make enough to provide for her child and herself. But someone having 7 kids JUST so you can collect welfare and free insurance is rediculous. This system sucks and i'm sick of paying for other people!!! When I was younger, my mother had 3 jobs to raise my 2 brothers and I because my dad was a dead-beat alcoholic. I dont wanna hear that someone cant work. Its choice! I've had a job since I was 15 years old. I dont ask anyone for anything, and I dont excpect anything. I'm so sick of moochers!


and Kids these days, expecting parents to "give" them something. Earn it!!!

Oh, and if you cant afford to pay for a child, keep it in your pants!!

In High school I used to joke with my friends that we should just start sending our criminals/bad people to the moon after they've convicted X number of crimes or something, kicking them out of our society. They would make their own living, just like how England did w/ Australia. (I stole the idea from a Sci-Fi book, props if you know what Author I'm talking about) I know this idea wouldn't work, but we'd certainly have a lot less people to waste our tax dollars on!

That didn't work in the past, the thing that worked we're morals. As far as the comment about border jumpers, you are mistaken. Yeah they may be here working illegaly, but guess what they cant claim taxes. Guess where those unclaimed taxes go, yes government programs. Studies have showed that there is a lot of government aid used by illegals, but they triple that with the jobs that they work and all of the FICA that gets taken out of their paychecks. Please do your search before posting.

Most work for cash. Im sure the money paid in taxes do not outway the benifits, regardless. I dont care who people are or where peple come from. This has nothing to do with "border jumpers" its a rant towards people who mooch, regardless of race or nationality.
