Re: 3rd brake light mod
Looks like they just stencel out the words on a black covering that goes over the light...

Re: 3rd brake light mod
I bought this a while back, its just like a vinyl sticker that goes on top of the light so that you only see the clear cut-out test. Its not that great, you can barely read it from behind the car in my opinion.

I've been thinking about getting one of those customizable LED licence plate frames that you can rig to scroll messages or light up when you hit the brakes, pulling the display out and jamming it where the stock third brake light is.

That would be illegal unlesss you plan on hooking it up to the brakes, because you need that third brake light, or else your against the law haha

Re: 3rd brake light mod
depending where you live you may not need the third brake light... in TN you only have to have 2 lights visible 500 ft to the rear of the vehicleThe General wrote:That would be illegal unlesss you plan on hooking it up to the brakes, because you need that third brake light, or else your against the law haha

I too had thought about getting the scrolling LED cause it looks cool lol

Re: 3rd brake light mod
TN is dumb haha, the whole reason for the 3rd brake light is too keep people on track, learned that in psychology, although I doubt it works so I can see where they are coming from

Re: 3rd brake light mod
TN may be dumb but have you actually gone and looked up the law for NH? - I would doubt if the letter of the law is much different
I spent several hours at the main library combing volumes of TN code to find everything and anything I could get pinned on that could be considered "illegal" on my car...

Re: 3rd brake light mod
Those things shouldn't really be illegal. If you need a 3rd brake light it shouldn't affect it, your not really affecting the visible light output. It's usually illegal to have a covering (aka tint/paint) on a light, but having an outline on it, well, there shouldn't be any legal grounds on it unless you have pretty much the whole things covered.
