mercury capri

Post by Savin »

does anyone know anything about it? wikipedia dont really say too much. im more interested in the miata styled one with the front wheel drive 1.6L DOHC. with a little work could this be a direct replacement? would the mounts be the same? more or less the ecu and wiring would that be relatively close? im asking this because my mx finally took a crap. too much stuff went wrong all at once. slowly rusting away but lookin sexy while doin it, lol. anyway, any and all info is very helpful. if its easy enough i know of a donor capri i can gat my hands on.

Mercury Capri AKA Ford Capri, built by Ford Australia, was also available in turbo form. Pretty much a Mazda 323 with a fancy body...., nowhere near as good as the MX-5, although the turbo Capri could out-accelerate the MX-5.

In answer to your question, yup i reckon it'd be an easy swap (but i don't know for certain!)

The capri XR2 (or something like that) is the turbo model. Once in a while, not often, I will find one in the junkyard, and what is always gone by the time I get to it...turbo and manifold. :(

mainly im just trying to figure out if the engine could be a direct swap (maybe with slight modifications) i'm limited on tools and space. i really don't care about turboing it or anything. since there are like absolutely no 94+ mx-3's around me, its hard to find parts or even direct engine swaps. if'll take alot of work, i'll just pass and do a bp swap later next year and let the mx sit. having a 1 car garage doesnt help me or the fact my thunderbird is in it either.
