Blow Check engine light
Blow Check engine light
Hey everyone. I've got a 93 Mx-3, 24 valve, DOHC.. which i purchased a month ago, and i've been trying to get it to run properly ever since. As i have read on many posts this car has idle issues and i'm having the same problem. I've changed the distributor, plugs, IAC valve, checked for vaccum leaks and i'm still having the issue but only when the engine gets warm.
I have one problem, i went to check for codes on my system when i realized my check engine light is blown. Is there another way to check for them, because i don't have the time right now to take the dash apart to change a light bulb.
Your help would be appreciated

On my 4cyl, I did an idle adjustment, and now when i'm stopped @ red lights, it idles at about 700-900 RPM's, and there is no more vibrations throughout the car.
I also (which helped), ran some seafoam through the car, and it cleared up my fuel injectors (I had one that was really bad), so idk if that helps ya, but it helped me

Jump TEN->GND and connect a test light between FEN and B+ . The test light will act like the CEL.Lynch wrote:Hey everyone. A guy at my work has a Snap-On Ethos scanner...thats what I used on mine. It tells you the codes and what they mean right on the screen. It's really amazing what the thing will do on OBD-II cars. If you have a couple grand burning a hole in your pocket, go and get one. Otherwise, I would just change the bulb.
No more MX-3

My car's even a '96, and I'm still not convinced it's OBD-II. I've got the connector, but can't pull anything but "error" with a scan-tool. Jumping T.EN and Ground won't give me the code either. Maybe I've got nothing.

Well, I fixed my problem with the car. I hate to say it, but it was a stupid vaccum leak. Ordered a new cold air intake from ebay, the one with the two connectors on it, for the vaccum lines. Fixed my problem completely. The old setup was done poorly, and didn't have those connectors.
So to sum it up, lots of time and money wasted, to find out it was a vaccum leak. Frustrating as hell, yet satisfying knowing it now runs properly.
Thanks again for the help all
