 They have a $500 budget, and that includes the price of the car, so unless people want to donate an engine I doubt he can afford the swap (unless it was already done).
Dont roll your eyes at me. He never said the $500 budget includes the car so I'm assuming it doesnt until he says it does. And a KLDE swap is alot cheaper than $500 so its possible on his budget.

24 Hours of Lemons
The race is only supposed to be 12 hours long. And it's only 6 hours one day, 6 hours the next (more or less). When I went the course was about 1 mile long and the winning car accomplished 655 laps in 13hrs 23mins. That's roughly 650 miles at 50mph. 325 laps/miles is not that strenuous on the car. Also considering the load on the car will be incredibly lightened (both electrically and physically) it shouldn't have any trouble lasting the race at redline.
That's the synopsis. Click the link for details. Each LeMons race is for cars purchased, fixed up, and track-prepped for a total of 500 dollars or less. But before reaching the grid, you'll have to survive trials like the Personal-Injury-Lawyer Anti-Slalom, the Marxist-Valet Parking Challenge, and the Wide Open Throttle Rodthrowapalooza. Twelve hours into the race, the car voted People’s Choice is called in and awarded a cash prize; simultaneously, the car voted People’s Curse is called in and summarily destroyed. At the end of 24 hours, a gala awards ceremony plies the survivors with trophies, plaques, and four-figure purses in canvas bags full of nickels. What's not to like?

We're kinda lucky on a lot of the little stuff like the exhaust. Since i've raced for years and I'm a pack rat I have lots of exhaust systems from the race car that were damaged in some manner. By piecing together the remnents we should be able to cobble one together pretty cheaply. Does anybody know what a dinged and dented Cherry Bomb is worth? It came off at speed down the front straight at Grattan......... (before I get 20 posts estimating value - it was a rhetorical question)

You guys need to work on your creative accounting... I am 99% sure your car came with a full intirior and you were able to part out most of it... there had to be several hundred $ worth of parts you "sold", right? ,wink wink> Don't you get to add that to your $500 budget?
