2 competitions this weekend

Post by chew* »

Like the title states there will be 2 competitions in CT this weekend back to back.

Saturday is DB drag and sunday will be USAC. Should break the 150db barrier on the dash now at db drag. Usac will likely be 151+ on the floor.

Will update with results after the shows.

We have some results.

Saturday I took first place at DB Drag with 1 15" hitting a 150.2 on the dash with the termlab meter beating a honda with 2 15" subs which hit 150.1db

Sunday I took second at USAC with 1 15" hitting a 152.6db on the floor with a termlab meter. I was beaten by a van with a wall of 10 12" subs and 2 very old kicker cheater amps. They were rated at 100 watts each and are capable of 1194 watts at 2 ohms and were being run at 1/4 ohm..........

O well can't win them all, the only saving grace I can say is that another member of his team using 2 15" memphis mojo's ( same sub I use ) was struggling to break 150db which means I must be doing something right.

I can link you to DB drags website which hosts pics of the comps.

Pics of this past saturdays show. My car isn't in them but you'll notice a pic of 2 Very big MA audio amps and 2 MASSIVE brand 15" subs. That is the car i went against and beat.

Pics and results from the first show of the season can be found here. My name is Brian McLachlan but they misprinted it.

What do the different classifications mean? And did that guy seriously hit 165db? And that sucks about 149.9; so close.

classifications go by quantity/size of speakers and also by modifications to the car etc removing panels, walls, removing seats front and or rear.

Yah was so close to 150db that show although I was the only one in my class. I redeemed myself though this last saturday with a 150.2 which the results should be available soon. Beat out 2 other vehicles for 1st.

Yes that guy really hit 165db. He wasn't pushing it as he had no real competition, its average is usually 167 and has hit 170. Its got 9 15 inch subs and a shitload of amps. its the blue van seen in the pics.

Wow.. Wiki even has an article for db drags.
A typical competitive vehicle can range from a van weighing 10,000 pounds, with 72 amplifiers putting out 130,000 watts to nine sub-woofers (15 in.), powered by dozens of car batteries and with upgraded electrical hardware (wiring and alternators), to a small vehicle weighing less than 1,000 pounds with a single amplifier and subwoofer.

The current loudest car has been recorded at 178.9 dB. For comparison:

* 200dB -- Rocket engine at 30 m; blue whale humming at 1 m
* 163dB -- Windows break
* 150dB -- Jet engine at 30 m
* 130dB -- Threshold of pain; train horn at 10 m
* 120dB -- Rock concert

The perceived loudness doubles with every 10dB increase, so 178.9 dB is about 50 times as loud as a rock concert (nearly 26 = 64), and nearly 8 times as loud as a jet engine.
That's ridiculous.

Yes sir its like i have a jet engine in my mx-3 only it still don't go fast. My goal this year is to hit 153db with only a single sub and without a wall. So i'm close but not that close, I still have to add my bigger amps so there is hope.
