Post by Suresperance »

my question is ... is that normal or is he just half a--ing my car. and if it is normal how long can i expect to go with out rust?

theres rust all along the windsheild and alittle on the pass side rear quarter. im thinking that this guy just hald a--es his rust repairs because it says on the quote that theres no garentee for reocurring rust.

I wouldn't have my car done at body shop like that. Most bodyshops I know off guarantee their work/paint jobs

agreed, had some rust repaired and they guaranteed it. Granted it was surface rust and not in such a hard place to repair.

hmm, Well that is a trick. I know the body man personally and write the insurance for his body shop so it was a deal. My paint was flaking off like many older MX-3s and there were 2 rust spots about 1 foot square. That along with the usual number of parking lot dings he charged me 1800 to fix the dents, rust, remove all the loose paint and repaint the whole car. He also let one of his newb shop guys paint the car so it had some defects that I brought back to be fixed. It still has a few very minor spots that could have been done better, but I won't complain since other shops were quoting between 3-4000 for the whole job.

yeah im paying 3grand for the whole deal my garage fell on it so its getting all that damage repaired and the parking not dings and dents and the rust and a whole new paint job i thought it was a good deal for 3gs but if the rust is just gonna come back i dont wanna have to go pay another grand or more later to have that done over you know waht i mean .... well now that i think about it ... all the other shops were quoting me 5+ thousand so i guess even if i do have to dole out a nother grand later its still cheaper.

how would i go about repairing rust if i wanted to do it myself .... ive done lots of body work before i shaved my antenna and sidemarkers and have fixed many a dent ... but i dont have a clue when it comes to rust.

Basically sand it off and use some good rust preventing primer. If it is deeper than surface rust (cannot be sanded off without thinning the metal) you would need to replace that part of the body by cutting a good part of another car and welding it in place. There are very special techniques as to where/how you cut the donor part and how to attach it to your car. It is a very special thing that should only be done by pros.

NP, maybe they are jsut covering their A$$ by saying the rust is not guaranteed. Make sure they guarantee the rest of the work for as long as you own the car. All the body shops around here will warranty thier work.
