axle shaft on a 1.6 w/5 spd

Post by chew* »

Any of you stereo guys change an axle on the 1.6l 5 spd? was doing my clutch today as I need the car ready for a show on the 28th etc this saturday, the axle cups refuse to come out of the transmission. I ended up ripping the axle out of the cup and damaged the axle on the pass side for lack of a better option. No clutch the car doesn't go to the show. anyway found out the clutch is just old, it's not bad as in worn down its cracked and the pressure plate no longer provides pressure, car sits to much. Any way is there a trick to popping the axles out on this car? I'm a mechanic and i have never in my life had this much trouble popping an axle out of a tranny.

In other news if i can get this car running and the stereo installed by friday night I should have some results for you guys on saturday as in possibly breaking the 150db barrier and maybe better. If this new box doesnt cut it i have one more to try which is a 5.50cft monster with a 9x15 inch port opening that should put me well above 150db although it likely will not be musical.

yah i figured it out, the snap clips on the axle were actually damaged etc bent which caused them not to release properly. car is up and running and I am starting to reinstall music now.
