cv axles

Post by Napalm7629 »

I am now replacing my cv axles in a 94' 1.6L 4cyl and i was about to order the parts i need. I took the old ones out, and was looking at pics of replacements online. The drivers side is fairly straight forward, but the passenger side i was getting kind of confused....my question is, for the second part of the cv axle (part that is bolted to the block, and connects into the transmission), it doesn't look like you get that with the new passenger side cv axle. Do you just reuse this part? if so, someone please tell me how i can kinda "recondition it" or if you do replace it, if someone could tell me either the name of the part, or a place to get it, that would be great! thanks! and any other information i may need that you all think would be helpful, please feel free to tell me....most of you all have been around the mx-3 a lot longer than me! lol

That is known as the jack shaft. It does not get replaced, but it reconditionable. The bearing and seal is all that you replace and can be bought in pieces from Mazda Motorsports (if you are a memeber of Mazda Motorsports) or you have to find the parts at some other place. I had a hard time finding the bearing and couldn't find a seal at all. Mazda sells the whole unit, but wants an arm and leg.
Otherwise the axle replacement is pretty straight forward. The axels get stuck from heat, rust and pressure so they might need to be tapped with a rubber mallett to loosen from the spindle. Make sure you get new axle nuts with the axles.
