i guess i made a mistake.
what i'm doing is: painting the center hubs of my new rear brake rotors

so first: i sprayed on coats of RUST KILLER, which i thought would be a good idea as a primer. well, turns out that when i sprayed on the silver CALIPER PAINT, the whole layer where i primed as well as painted started to chemically fracture. but only in some areas, which is likely because i had just used METHYL ALCOHOL to lightly clean the overspray i had done onto the face of the rotors with the Rust Primer. The whole layer of primer and caliper paint then peeled off like unconnected skin, so I'm back to square one.

but seeing my dream collapse before my eyes, i thought: What if I paint the entire caliper, not just the center hubs? I swear i've seen this done in that the rotor discs were painted red, but now that i think of it and can't find the pictures, they may have just been brake DRUMS ...

so let me ask: can i just spray caliper paint onto my entire rotors and call it a day instead ?? (no primer this time. just all caliper paint on all of the rotor)

Do you really think that's safe?

Chances are the paint will rub off were the pads contact the rotor, so ones that happens, yeah it woudl be perfectly safe. I don't exactly know the nature of caliper paint on rotors, it could last forever and make it really slippery. I would advise againts it.

If you do, do your back first. See how it works. If the paint won't come off, then you know not to do it to your front. If it does, wait till the contact surface is clean, then do the fronts (you don't want them all painted at the same time, incase it doesnt' work. Then you have no brakes!)

how about that "rust free protection spray" that solo_ryder mentions earlier in this topic? Does that exist? That would be ideal: instead of painting at all, I can simply keep the rotors looking as is, but simply invisibly protected from rust

I painted my front calipers black last summer but did a bad masking job... so needless to say i have to re-paint them this summer.

I am actually working on getting a set of powder coated ones even if its more expensive than DIY.

I used similar caliper paint from Canadian Tire as J-beef did on my old MX-3 calipers and i never heated them and the paint lasted an entire summer without fading or falling off.
