CF replacement door panels?

Post by cjthor »

Wouldnt this be a sweet idea? I no longer have a stereo on my car and would love to just have a pretty basic door panel with just a door handle and a spot for window controls. Anyone feel up to the challenge?

there's so many appearance upgrades that the mx3 deserves if only someone went ahead with their development (and the customers weren't so frugal). i feel like this car deserves more style options, especially when it comes to front bumpers (80% of of them look horrendous) ... Pakfeifer, SRD, and EvilYeti should merge ... just think how beatuiful it would be ... Carbon Fiber wiper cowl, carbon fiber gill hood, hatch keyhole removal kit, Eunos Type-S front bumper, Veilside Mx-3 Fortune Model, clear headlight lenses, Eclipse wing, SRD Xenon HID kit, ... it could go on

CF door panels has been looked into a few times, but the problem is there are not enough people that will be willing to put the money down for it, because they wont be cheap. They would cost more than a hood.

I wouldnt expect them to be THAT much more than a hood. Its about the same amount of CF material.

You have to make 2 molds instead of one, and molds are what cost the most money. The door panels are not as simple as a hood either.

Thats just a flat peace of CF is it not? I have thought about doing that with Carbon Fiber sheets but it does not look nearly as nice as a OEM Door Panel would in CF.

If that is all you guys are looking for though why not just buy CF sheets off of ebay? It would be cheaper imho.

Just took some rough measurements and if you guys wanted to use just a sheet of CF, Roughly a 48" x 24" sheet of CF should be enough to make your door panel from. To be safe i would go with a 48" x 36" sheet but a 48x24 should work if you make your cuts perfect.

I have contacted 1 person about a price per sheet. I will let you guys know more if you're indeed this interested.

I would be interested in a BASIC door panel...with a spot for the door handle...and a spot for the window controls/door pull. THATS IT. no speaker no nothin...although I dont think a speaker hole would be that hard to do..

Well this is what a company in the US emailed me back with.

2 Panels: 158.70USD shipped to my door. 5.7oz 2x2 Twill Weave Plain Carbon Fiber Panel. 48"x 24"

I will find out if this is something Oscar would do, I'm just waiting for his reply.

I would have a set, indeed.. :)

A well built, high quality door panel...I would think, may cost around $200- $300/side. I wouldn't whine about the price either, after all its carbon fiber and just plain cool.

Are you talking for a Door Panel that is only a Flat Sheet? Or an actual OEM replacement?

The Sheet panels i can see being cheap. An actaul OEM Replacement will not be cheap on the other hand.

I would think it would be a "basic" door panel, including a door handle and a spot for the window controls....and call it DONE.

Do you mean holes cut for the original handles? If so than yea thats keeping simple. I don't see why it couldn't be done to those spec's.

I'm going to measure the inside of the door this weekend to make sure that measurements i listed on here will actually work.
