Engine Problem

Post by precidiadrummer »

Right now..I've been sitting my car in the shop for about 4 days, they and myself are pissed, costing alot of money and still won't stay going, when they had it going it was sounding bad..but good Comp, 180 180 160 160, Bought the engine last week for 500$ at a salvage yard, no distributor, altenator, or powersteering, but I bought another altenator, New distributor, new spark plugs, new timing belt, new spark plug wiring, took power steering off of my old engine, (My altenator ended up being what made the chain reaction that blew my head gasket on old engine) and to top it off new clutch. But they put the engine in, i've even been there most of the time now i'm getting that tired of it, Will turn over, but just won't stay running again, when I first went to shop had it running but soundin horrible, then after couldn't barely get it going at all. The altenator wasen't put on yet, and their battery charger needed to be charged, so I left, their going to try to get it running later today but who knows..figured I'd give everyone an update But it's annoying, we can't figure out the problem. I don't know, could you think they put the timing belt on wrong? this engine I bought got 167xxxkm, old one had 228xxxkm and altenator seized, which broke belt between alt and water pump, which made my water pump not give my engine coolant, in turn blew my headgasket (a new one put in last year, warrenty ran out 1 month before it happened) But ANY ideas what could cause this engine not to run, the place we bought it off gave us a guarentee but couldn't get "enough parts to get it running" before they gave it to us. Find it funny..who knows maybe they'll get it running.. I don't think not having the altenator on would make a difference while they got the charger battery hooked up to it. Sorry i'm learning see what anyones says i'm open to anything right now

the timing marks on my main pulley and the plastic timing belt cover are incorrect, at least that's what i've come to conclude on my mx, so i did it the old-fashion way, #1 at TDC, rotate only the cam gear to match the book's specifications, align the rotor to point to #1 plug wire terminal, put the belt on, and it fires right up (if i line up like the chilton book shows, with the main pulley key straight up, the #1 piston is not quite TDC), you'll know from the engine "pinging" if it's the timing, the joker will get hot really quick too, have them put the alternator on with the belt to the waterpump and make sure they have water in the engine as well before testing it again...

the ecu knows when components aren't plugged in...
