Factory anti theft radio question

Post by panheader »

I was just wondering about the flashing led on my factory radio. Would I have a probem if I was to change the battery or in any other way lose power to the radio? Thanks

Mine never did. I went thru several batteries in the beginning, the one when I bought the car and the used one from my old probe. You shouldnt have any problems.

Thanks, now I can disconnect without worrying. I heard that on the Blaupuncts with the theft thing, you had to program in a # any time it lost power.

No, it works and if you loose power for long (maybe even briefly) it will require the code to turn the radio back on. 3 wrong tries to imput the code and it fries and you'll need a new radio. about 200 years ago it happened to me b/c I tripped the breaker and didn't know the code...

So where would I look to find the code? It would make more sense to have the code in the car's computer so it would only work in THAT car....but I guess that would be too easy  And thanks for the head's-up on that.

It is programmed by the original owner from what I know. I called Mazda to get it when my radio asked for it and that is what they told me. I tried to find the people that I bought the car from, but didn't have the patients to call all the same last names in the phone book and ended up trying until I ran out of the 3 tries. Blew it and bought an aftermarket.

I think there is an option to disable this anti-theft thing before you cut power - i remember seeing something like that in the owner's manual.

I ordered a Chilton's manual at Part Source that I'm picking up today. Maybe that will cover the disabling thing. Not that I'm planning to cut the power soon, but you just never know.

No not the chiltons - look in the owners manual that comes with the car.
