insane oil consumption!!
I have to fill my car with about 8 quarts of oil between oil changes. I know my car burns oil most 6 cylinder MX-3's do but that much burning seem insane to me. Now I also know my rear valve cover seal is leaking in atleast one of my spark plug ports i hoping thats the main reason for have to fill up so much because the plug is bruning the oil(if thats possible). can any one verify that of give a lil more knowledge. I would think my plugs would fowl out though. not a big engine guy so any heklp would be great thanx

Does your mx-3 leak any oil on the ground? A bad valve cover gasket will leak some but not anything like you are describing. If that is the only place you leak oil and you burn off that much oil internally. How does your mx3 run? I would think like crap. To answer your question, i agree with the other guys that it is your piston rings.
To the best of my knowledge, oil will not burn off in the spark plug hole. It will just leak until it is full and than have no place to go. Oil should not be able to seep down into the cylinder through the spark plug. So no oil is being burnt off there.

Looking for another Red GS.
For my GS K8, I check my oil level every 3 tanks of gas. I have to add about 1 qt for every 1000miles. I was kind of thinking it could be the piston rings. I could hear some piston rings noise sometimes. My engine is clean and never leaks anything except the water from the AC system.
My mechanic fren said that's normal and not too bad for a motor like 100K of mine. Some new cars like 05 and 06 models, they burn more oil than my engine...

I had the same prob with my v6 just not as severe. two of the rear spark plug holes were leaking oil about 1 quart every 3k and it didn't affect the way the car ran at all because after i fixed it i couldnt tell a difference performance wise. also my friend installed the wrong PCV valve on his car and he started going through oil and smokin like crazy. for some reason it was actully suckin up oil through the valve cover....

OIL catch can can help a bit, new pvc valve also will help. Its normal for sometimes SOME oio to go in the IM.. however... NOT recommended... why dont u use a simple catch can and see if that helps a bit.. i must agree with everyone else.. piston rings.
