bad gas???

Post by ghandi1492 »

My wife filled my car up at the local texaco (i always use shell). Havent had any problems with the acceleration of my car, but now when i punch it it kind of bogs down and sounds like my engine is gurgling (sp?) water, then it will accelerate fine and so on. I will be on the freeway and try to speed up, rpms go up but the car doesnt, then finally it will just "surge" with power and drive/sound like normal. last night i went tried to get as much of the old texaco gas out then put some shell 91 in it. But it was still doing it this morning.

Can this be bad gas?

Thanks!

AJ

This be your problem, sounds like a clutch perhaps.

but would a bad clutch cause the engine/exhaust to make that 'gurgling' sound??

Try adding a bottle of fuel system cleaner

Running the tank dry (holding off until the last drop) will cause the pump to suck up the sediments and whatever dirt is in the tank - especially in a 13 year old car.

i refill my tank when the light comes...how many gal does the tank hole...around 12 or so right?? Because whenever i fill up the max i have ever put in my take was a little less than 11 gal.

also, i forgot to mention, i replaced the fuel filter like 5 or so months ago and it has run fine ever since....

ariesdude makes agood point. If the tank has never ben purged, than it's safe bet that you've been (ever so gradually) sucking up sediments and the like into the fuel system. The sudden improvement noticed when you did your last fuel filter change should have been a little message to you. But all that's in the past. To eliminate any potential "bad gas" lets try some corrective measures. Try to source some gas line antifreeze. This is a good way to get rid of any excess moisture in there now. Add that gas line anti-freeze to a full tank of 94 octane. As a rule, I myself use nothing but 94 octane for the last 11 years on the MX - both with the K8 and the ZE. The ZE will love the 94 octane also. You may even find, strangely enough that you may get close to 30mpg on some good conditions too. I wouls also recommend that you never let the fuel level go below 1/4 tank when ever possible. Never ever wait til the low fuel warning light comes on. That's a woman thing, don't you know..... LOL. Try these few inexpensive ideas and see what the results are after about a month or so. Even the extra cost of the 94 octane will be offset by the slightly better performance and mileage. Not to mention you'll have a slightly hotter burn and run cleaner plugs too. I change my plugs once a year and they show very little wear and tear becasie of the 94 octane. Your ZE will love you for it too. Unfortunately, you may have tainted the fuel filter too, and might not really know until you actually change it out .... again.

also will probably damage your pump too, I do not suggest running your fuel pump dry
