Battery Replacement & Relocation
Hey guys.. I have decided to relocate the battery in my GS to the rear of the car.. now I have looked at a lot of threads on this and seen a lot of pics of how people have done this. I wont have any issues with the relocating.. however.. A friend got one of these batteries for his MR2 and loves it.. just wondering if anyone else has tried them out.

Now if you havent used one.. or seen in person one used.. that wont help me much. But I am just wondering about their reliability.. the size and power seem excellent as well as the weight.

The part I really like about them is that they are a drycell.. meaning you can mount them any way you want except upside down.. which means.. if you lay it flat.. its only slightly more than 3 inches tall.. which means.. it will fit in the spare tire well without modification...

Wish I could help more on this topic Tunes & hope this post adds something, cuz bottom line is, I don't have any direct exp. w/the Odyssey. Attempted some Web research last yr but wasn't very successful so finally installed an engine-bay-mounted Optima YellowTop D51R - 10 lbs lighter and ~40% smaller footprint than stock but still 11 lbs heavier and ~40% larger than the Odyssey PC680MJ. YellowTop specs seem somewhat better than the Odyssey altho I'm not sure about the Odyssey Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) rating, the way they list cranking amps, it's not clear that 680, etc. =CCA. I've never found any car owner reviews on the Odyssey. They do seem well accepted on motorcycle BB's. Here's the comparative mftr specs:
Optima YellowTop D51R
Q. How long has your friend been using the Odyssey and has it had to survive any stretches of cold weather?

My friend has only had his Odyssey for a couple of months now.. and here in Western Washington.. we dont get cold weather as the rest of the world understands it
I agree with you on the CCA. I was assuming that the 680 was CA since they didnt put down CCA specifically. Though typically CCA is usually about 100 A less than CA. So still.. a 580 CCA for my needs should be enough I would think.

It seems a bit small for loaded times. I'd do the Millenia Alt with it to make sure you don't run it dry when you have the radio and AC on and then try to roll a window or two up.
That is totally unfounded technically, but just from its miniature size...

Was planning on running the millenia alt as well.. but I also dont have AC either
The thing that is the most attractive to me is its small size.. I'll follow up in this thread when I get it and get it installed. Cheers

I have that battery
I didn't relocate it to the rear..
I'm in australia & am putting the straight neck ze in with this battery next to it..
done all the measurements, should fit ..
It's only 78mm thick, or just over 3 inches
Had it in for about a month, no problems, ze will hopefully be in in the next month.......

Odysseys are great batteries. Also look at Orbital. I got mine for $85 shipped from this guy: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ORB75DT- ... dZViewItem
The Orbital are built like a tank compared to the Optimas, and they're still sealed acid.

I have heard Orbital batteries are really good.. but I want the Odyssey for size & weight.. I am glad to hear that there are a couple of folks that have had some experience with them
My friend with the MR2 has been trying to sell me on these batteries for a while now.. but since he has one.. I had to consider his opinion to be a bit biased
Besides.. if you buy something that sucks and its expensive and everyone told you not too.. you arent likely to admit that it sucked
LOL
