Turbo

Post by Black4CylMX3 »

So basically i don't have the money or time to do a full bpt swap in my RS mx3, so i want to turbo the stock 4cyl engine. I've done some searching but haven't found much, so if someone who has done this could tell me what all i need such as what parts and where i could probably find them. Thanks in advance.

Nah i have the 94 DOHC one, but i guess i'll go read the faq.

I'll probably just use a kit for a 1.6L miata on my car.

well the miata is a rwd car therefore the engine is mounted longitudal as compared to ours which can be thought of as mounted latitudal i guess...? Anyways i don;t think the exhaust manifold will work. I think i had this discussion before i while back.

BPT > B6

Youll be happier with a bpt.. Save up a little more id say.. youll be happier in the end.

Franko, dont be so quick to dismiss a turbo B6 as a viable alternative to the BPT. Plenty of power can be made from the 1.6 DOHC engine especially with a built bottom end and proper tuning.

Infact honestly I have not been impressed with the HP numbers that I have seen from a stock BPT swap in a MX3. Most of the guys then had to modify that setup to produce good HP numbers and 1/4 mile times. I know of MX3s with BPT swaps that are running low 15s for instance.

Your comments are welcome.

I would say it all boils down to how much $$ you are willing to spend.

The more money you dump into it, the more likely one will be faster than the other.

I can dismiss what I want when I want! Stop trying to run my life! I live by my own rules.. no one elses.... Not even my own! :P

Seriously though, I just like the bpt. I dont think I would have ever gotten a b6t simply because its probally the ugliest engine ive ever seen.. I HATE HATE HATE how the intake manifold is designed so that the charge pipe goes over the valve cover. There is just no way to make it look nice.
I had often thought about turboing the stock engine that was in my car but if I had to choose again, I would definately do the same thing..
My stock bpt was blowing the doors off a turbo focus with a stock engine on 10 psi with a t3. He tried turning up the boost to 15 and the tuning ability just wasent there causing one of the connecting rods to get tired and decide to make an exit through the side of the block.

Im intrested to see how things are going to be with this new setup Ive gone for.
