I noticed a small annoyance with my 1.6L DOHC ATX - whenever it shidts from 2nd gear to 1st gear there is a 1-2 second delay before the gear engages.
So when i press on the gas the car just bogs down (rpm goes down) for that time and then shifts to 1st gear and then pulls hard. It doesnt happen in any other shifts like 3rd to 2nd and 4th to 3rd - they are smooth.
I thought it could be a fuel system problem - i have changed fuel filters, checked fuel pump/pressure, cleaned fuel injectors, throttle body etc and the problem hasnt gone away (but i did get a bit of mileage increase and smooth idle). I am thinking its a tranny related problem - does anyone have any insight on this? Thanks for the help.

could be the bands, all you need to do is tighten the bands for 1st gear this may help but i would look in some other areas first. should be a "how-to" somewhere in the shop manual.
Change your ATX fluid and filter inside the tranny pan.
When you drain it, stick a magnet ( if not magnetic plug ) against the drain hole and let the fluid drain. When it's all said and done, pull the magnet off, look for little crystal looking spikes, these are usually metal shavings and dirt in the tranny. If you have large silver pieces or large black pieces, I would consider a tranny rebuild in the near future or a swap to a MTX.
Good luck.
