Besides if we can get a couple of those small ones going we should be pretty ok.
Sure, but we were no more than a dozen people, half a dozen cars. I remember at David's, the BBQ was going non stop. I was late when you guys and Ian did the BBQ, so I don't know how that one went, but on a good meet were usually somewhere between 20-30 cars, and if we organise this thoroughtly and this far ahead, that wont be enough. I just want to assume the worst (or best, depends on how you look at it) and be prepared is all goes well.

Well true it ran pretty much all through that get together...but we never had a moment where we were running slow or anything. That is why I am saying....if we take about 6-10 people on each BBQ and have about 4 of them there...we should be more than ok.

But prepping for the worst is a good way to go as well..then youz uber prepared.

I had a small bbq but it broke .. if I can't fix it I have to buy another one .. so I'll bring it.

I just checked on renting one of those big BBQs ... they are alot of money ... $120 + $14 delivery each way ... but that's in Kingston ... would be probably more in Mississauga.

True..but I think the small ones won't be all that much of a hassel. Plus if there is low demand for food then it's not a waste having a massive bbq.

Nd4SpdSe wrote:Ya, we should kick it up a notch this year. Get a good BBQ going. A cruise would be nice, something like Ottawa, but it's all city driving and would be just frustrating and we'd loose people along the way. We could maybe have a race session at Formula Kartways. Would give something to do, let the ego's clash on the track :)
Mikey, you can still have a BBQ, still organize a good cruise and still have it in Mississauga. Rather than having the meet at the Marina, why not go to the north part of Mississauga. I'm sure that there's a suitable conservation type area(s) that would meet our needs. Contacting the Mississauga Parks Dept. would probably reveal some potential sites. By being situated north of the populated city, it would be much easier to initiate a cruise to and from that site. FWIW

I actually have a coleman porty BBQ thats awsome for some burgies....makes me think Mazda winter meet! Hey, a lot of other car groups usually do a city cruise and I was wondering why doesn't everyone meet early at a Tim Hortons and then do a cruise to the prominade? Just a thought. At lunch a couple years ago we had everyone looking as about 15 of us cruised out. It would be cool to maybe even do a poker run or something. Prizes??? Just a thought.

We'll, considering this is the 9th's one, and it's been at this location since the beginning, and people know where is it, I personally won't change it. We can use it as the main gathering point, but going along with tradition, you just can't change it.

I only attended last year's and from my perspective, it was a bit of a let down. It appeared that no one stood up to take charge, no specific directions or activities, no organized BBQ's or events and as mentioned and confirmed previously not a good place conducive to start or end any kind of a short road ride of any sort. In the heart of the city, so of course a higher concentration of police to be encumbered with. Who says it HAS to be at the Marina? If you want tradition to determine the future success of this event, it may be doomed to a slow death considering last years event. A setting like the MOM - Meet of Mazda's was an ideal type of scenario that would do us perfectly IMO. Finding a similar type of convservation area in the north part of Mississauga shouldn't be that difficult. BBQ's and an organized road trip from an area like that would be perfect and wouldn't have to deal with inner city traffic. Maybe it's time to think outside the box.

I like the poker run idea.

Exerpt from a pm;
That is a possibility, but what about the others that don't want to go on the cruise? Are you saying that the meet is over at that point? Or if around half leave for that cruise, will the others assume that the event is over and leave anyway because they know you're not returning? It still does not address the fact the you'll not be able to enjoy a reasonable cruise if you're going to have to contend with city traffic, congestion (since it is on a weekend), stop lights every short distance and so on. A more rural location would not have any of these issues to contend with. You'd already be close to the countryside to be able to actually have a REAL cruise and have some fun rather than running from stop light to stop light. It could also be scheduled for mid-day between lunch and supper which might entice people to return to the event grounds and have a BBQ for supper too. I'd say have the cruise start at 2pm and return by say 3 or 3:30. This would also work for those that don't wish to go on a cruise but will stick around knowing that the cruise is for a finite time period and everyone will be back in 60 to 90 minutes. It would be nice to have a longer event if possible. The marina is a pretty place but just not conducive to easy access. It will still be the Annual Mississauga Meet .... just not at the marina. What is so darn special about that marina that makes it a better choice over a more rural location? Personnaly, I'd probably only stay for a few hours and then leave if it shapes up to be nothing more than the same as last year. I know I heard numerous comments on the side from attendees that weren't very impressed with the organization or management of that meet.
