Technical datas 2.5l MX-3

hi guys and greetings from germany.
i hope you can help me with my problem. as my ´92 1.8l engine have had a damage i wanna do a swap from 1.8l to the 2.5l out of a MX-6. unfortunately the klde engine was not offered in germany for the MX-3 and so i need some technical data sheets of the american version of the 2.5l MX-3 to legalize the swap. therefore i need:
1. the quantity of emissions
2. the serial numbers of gearbox, motor steering box and brakes
3. the weight of the car (loaded - empty)
mazda usa unfortunately was not able to give me these informations (or they didn´t want to )
i really really hope you can help me. if anyone can please send me a copy of these sheets as email to andreas_schumann@gmx.de ( should have an official stamp of mazda or be certified by an office)

Considering your looking at information related to an Mx-6, i would recommend to check out http://www.mx6.com, they would know about their cars then we would.

I don't understand, what 2.5L engines did you get in germany then? Aren't engine upgrades in general illegal in germany?

Serial numbers are usually matched with the car and individual for each car. I never checked, nor have I a reason to, but I believe that's the way they would be.

if im understanding correctly, it sounds like you think the 2.5 litre was available in mx-3s from the factory , but unfortunatly it was not. anywhere.

you can use any k series engines and most of them are better than k8 slightly. ivenseen tons of write ups on these engines.

Yeah, the MX-3 came with the K8 in all countries. The 2.5L we put into the car. As for emisions I can't say what Mazda rated the motor at, but my 2.5L KL-ZE passes with lower emisions than my K8 and the ZE doesn't have EGR. Anyway, I think you need to find out if it is legal to swap the motor from a MX-6 into the MX-3 in Germany. Also there is a German MX-3 club that could help. Do a search and you'll find them....

engine upgrades in germany can be done if you can show, that the emissions are in acceptable tolerances, that the brakes are powerfull enuogh and the new weights are not too much for the chassis (thats why i cannot use the MX-6 datas). but these informations are very expensive if you let do them by private firms. i would have to pay about 2000€, thats about 2300 US$. in germany are guys who done that, but they are not interessted in sharing these informations
as i thought that the klde engine was build in the american version of the MX-3 i was asking you. damn that it wasn´t

Yep, same here, it creamed the e-test, my K8 actually failed the first run.

Well, wouldn't the easiest way to get emissions info out of your local Mx-6 and swap in that engine? As for weight, I believe it's almost negligable

Are you not getting any help or assistance from the other DE Clubs? There are a number of members here from DE and as well, I think "Gro Harlem" does make contact with other DE Club / BB members. Perhaps he may have some insight to this problem.

Why cant you just swap in the engine, nobody will be able to tell the difference. The engine weighs pretty much the same as your stock engine. Emissions are probably no different and you just use your stock transmission.

If they check the Vin on the motor it will not match and then God knows what trouble and hassle he'll get inot the straighten it out.

Also if he needs technical data from Mazda he is screwed. They won't publish it anymore (probably don't even have it anymore). Also since the DE was never in a MX-3, he needs MX-6 data which will be just as hard to get Mazda printed data on. We could come up with engine weights, and proven emisions data (in hte form of passing emisions slips), but he'll still need brake info (which the MX-3 uses smaller brakes and I don't know of any BG chasis with larger brakes in N.A. that he could use the data from.

The only real source is going to be to find someone in Germany to help out. I'd bet that the ones who have done the swap have found a way around the need for the data and that is why they don't want to share. (getting busted will mean they have to change back to a K8)

What about stroking your current engine? You can use KLDE rods and crank to get your existing block to about 2.2 liters. Then, use the KLZE cams on it to get a little more breathing going, a little head work on the K8 heads. You could also see if you can bore out those cylinders appreciably to get KLZE pistons in there. Then, your block number will match up OK, but the internals will be different.

the problem is, that my current engine have had a crankshaft damage. a repair is not payable. maybe i´m going to put in the 2,0l kf engine. this one is not to distinguish from the 1.8l, even for consultants
