Deb was asking about this before in the off-topic forum...
But I am also looking for a digital camera....
What should I be looking for?

I like my Canon A70 camera.
i'd look at shot length (or something) like. from the time u press the button, to the time it atually takes the picture. On my camera it's a few seconds, which is a PITA for me taking action (snowbaording etc.) pics. I've found out a way to make it better though.
Always get a bigger memory card! I got a 256mb card when i got my camea, and i've never filled it up, with a few minutes of moveis, and like 150 pictures. it's sweet.

obviously more megapixels will give higher quality pictures, don't go less than 3MP. optical zoom is always a good feature to have since digital zoom is worthless. shutter speed as he said...you don't wanna havta keep holding the button waiting for a picture to take, bad for action shots.
appart from that, just compare the size/feel, viewfinder LCD, battery consumption, what kinda memory card it takes (SD, xD, ect) and the price of expansion.
i find that the best ones are made by the good camera names like olympus, cannon, and for a more value priced kodak.
as long as the specs are decent and the price is right, it comes down to personal preference nowadays since most new ones have all the right features.

Krish, I had a Canon A100 given to me as a gift a few years back but always had problems with downloading the pics. The software that came with it wasn't very OS friendly and found myself finding alternate means to retrieve the pics.kp2t wrote:well the hp camera i had was good, a pity it only lasted a year
3.2mp 3x zoom but shutter speed was a bit iffy for night shots for the mx3 meets!!!
A few months ago a friend told me that Office Depot was having a sale (usually happens a couple times a year) where they try to clear out old inventory. I went there on spec and ended up buying an HP R607. Almost all cameras (all makes) were 50% off so I scooped the HP. I found it very easy to use, 4.1 MP, onboard memory, and I didn't have to load up any software to have it download it's pics to the puter. I've found it vey user friendly and an excellent purchase so far. For my purposes, I haven't found the need to have anything more elaborate or more multi-funtional than it already is. $124.00 cdn for this was an excellent deal. Office depot will probably be having a similar sale , more than likely after Christmas which is usually a good time to pick up items like this anyway.

Meh...got a sweet deal on a 5.1 Konica/Minolta that fell off the back of a truck. Was pleasantly supprised by it, takes both kind of mem cards at the same time, audio, and all the other useless bells and whistles.Selecta wrote:I'm still a Nikon man.

just keep in mind that you can spend $1000 on a camera, but if you can't take pictures properly you might as well have spent $10 on a disposable. learning how to hold a camera properly while taking pics will make a huge difference. i am no expert by any means, but i have been getting better pics over time with practice. btw, use a tripod whenever possible. good luck.
